40 min of shift+n, ctrl+n, shift+ctrl+n, other options, manually recalculating.
this is just the greatest answer.

Awesome guide.... thank you!
It does not only apply to 3D entities but also to STL export for 3D printing.
I used a cylinder as a starting point, removed the top and bottom faces and started edge loop offset extrusions to the outside, round to the top edge again, resulting in a torus with a special cross section profile. The exported STL still assumed that that initial cylinder wall was a solid to the inside, while in Blender edit I removed them.
Flipping those initial wall face normals was the key. Thanks again, for sharing this piece of insight.

sweet i had a print fail noticed it was black in two areas, which never printed. had no blender knowledge but this was so simple to follow. got a like and sub from me
