Maybe "right to repair" needs a rebranding... Call it "freedom to repair". Maybe that would make it harder for lobbyists to explain to politicians why they should vote against people's freedom (to repair).

"I don't know much about farming, but i know bullshit when i see it."
So, you do know something about farming.

I live and grew up in a farm communities. My father-in-law and brother-in-law are farmers. Some of best friends are farmers. I have worked for farmers and driven tractors. I am good friends with the local FFA chapter teacher and my boys were in the FFA. I follow farmers efforts on right to repair, so I know that the farmers themselves want it by an almost unanimous consent. I think in one vote on the issue in a farmer organization here in Nebraska, the vote was like 170 - 1 in favor of right to repair.

Ngl, the whole "We didn't have enough time to discuss it" is basically just an admission of guilt that they failed to do their jobs properly for the past 6 years. It's the literal adult life equivalent of a middle school kid postponing their homework by watching youtube videos and then showing up in class a week later saying they didn't have enough time to finish it. Now I'm no business owner myself but I'm gonna take a raw guess that a person that does their job poorly for 6 years straight that's proper grounds for termination is it not?

The most regulated industry, when it comes to repairs, is the aviation industry. Yet, they don't program aircraft engines to stop working when you swap them to another aircraft. Perhaps someone could do a video on Airbus/Boeing vs John Deere.

The cat says, "Meow"
The cow says, "Mooo"
The tyrant says, "It's for your safety!"

I think most normal Americans are sick and tired of hearing about "Safety" a million times a day

I love that right to repair is really getting into the public consciousness and thanks for being part of that.

These industries are so powerful at protecting their "right to profiteer." And good on you for calling it out as the BS.

I'm sorry Mr Rossman, but I have to disagree, the past few years have proven to me that all it takes is a few media articles and most people will believe literally anything

Freedom **can** be dangerous. Tyranny **is** dangerous.
I'll take the chance over the guarantee, every time.

Sounds ok. If I didn't see it, I don't think I would have noticed that you changed the mic.

First, good sound, no distortion, very clear and easy to understand. Second, my father came from a generation that fixed things, and new how to fix things. I remember him telling me how, on a cold day, you would take the coil out of the engine of your car, heat it, and that would help the engine turn over. This was when Ford was still involved in the manufacturing and design process of the cars his company was building. He was a mechanic, and built for mechanics. Now, I know how to repair minor things on my car, but I never developed the desire to work on an engine, even though I took shop classes in Junior High. Industry managers are driving the current trend towards a more disposable technology where they get the benefits from their customers having to buy what is essentially the same product over and over for their profit. Yes, the technology keeps changing, but the basic services that most users utilize isn't changing much. I've been in the nutty part of the infotainment gaming industry, where bigger and faster can make a noticeable difference, but most people don't care. And don't understand what it takes to repair the technology.

right to repair harmful to farmers? then why are farmers asking for it citing how harmful not being able to repair their own property is becoming to their livelihoods? Why is it only politicians, lobbyists, and the people selling the equipment claiming it's harmful when they clearly have a conflict of interest in the matter?

It's BS that you say you can't BS the public anymore. You're faith in humanity disturbs me after the last few years.

Well, when my boyfriend and his friends made their first encounter with a fuel injected car and all of its computers they asked me for help. I had a diploma in Microcomputer Electronics. I was able to help them. You don't need to know anything about farming to have a basic understanding of how the computers in these tractors work if you know how processors and electronics work. It is also very easy to understand how frustrating it would be to not have access to diagnostic tools and equipment. You don't need to understand how and when to plant crops to fix a tractor.

As someone who has been exposed to a decent number of farmers, you are spot on. Every farmer I have met prefers to try fixing anything by themselves first and loathe paying for repairs

The good book says, "Be not afraid" or "fear not", 365 times. That is how important it is to live a life free of the tyranny of fear.
