Showing my age here. Many many years ago, when I was enjoying a turntable, I used a typewriter pad. Remember typewriters? Heavy things prone to vibration. Most sat atop heavy rubber-type pads that were the perfect size for turntables. I may still have mine.

Brilliant, i actually did this about a month ago and also added sorbothane feet to each corner of the cutting block. Works a treat under my Technics Sl 1700 mk2. Great minds...

Tip I've personally tried myself recently: If you want to make the texture of the bamboo board look deeper and rich, you can use mineral oils that people use for their wooden/bamboo cutting boards. Once you apply it, you will immediately be able to tell the difference in color depth. It should last quite a while since you won't really use the board for cutting. Just make sure to leave it untouched overnight after application for the oils to completely dry and embed onto the surfaces.

I personally did it originally because I sanded away the IKEA logo on the side of the board, so that side was slightly faded from all the sanding. The mineral oils pretty much rejuvenated that side and made it look as if it was never sanded in the first place. Looking back, I would personally do this visual hack regardless of whether or not I had sanded the board.

If you want to go cheaper than that. Solid concrete blocks from the hardware store works well too. Don't want to scratch a surface. Yoga mats cut to size also works for the cheap.

Good idea ! - Another option for that board would be to drill 4 holes into that board. Diameter same as a squash ball, Depth 1/2 diameter of squash ball. Then glue in 4 soft squash balls to give damped pneumatic suspension :-)

Great idea and you are spot on about "some" 20 minute videos ! Not all, but some I just can't finish. Great job.

Have used Ikea butcher blocks for years. Also put squash balls cut in half as isolation feet for them.

Keep in mind the weight of your turntable and the weight of the Ikea board... the Sorbothane feet listed wouldn't work for my set up based on weight... I had to go up to the dura 50. The recommended weights are listed in a PDF called Sorbothane's Standard Product Guide. Best to check it before blindly ordering.

My hi-Fi dealer told me about these IKEA boards a few years ago. He swears by them. He mentioned something about the bamboo running in different directions.I never did buy one but maybe I should.

Chopping block + Practise Hockey Pucks make a serious damper Pucks are made of a dense foam rubber.. not as dense as a real puck.. softer for not making marks in garage doors etc.. Works a treat.

65 this year. Bought a low cost Sony turntable to play my old vinyl. Also had my huge speakers floor speakers redone (new woofers) and my problem now is that with my wife working at home (upstairs) I am in a very small room downstairs. I like it LOUD and when I get to 11 o'clock (or close) I get a huge rumble-feedback from the turntable. I have the speakers as far apart as possible, yet the turntable is still pretty close. The platforms are out of my budget, in fact many of them cost more than I paid for the turntable! The Ikea board may be something i'll look into. Thanks!

Also, Machina Dynamica Springs are a fantastic addition under components and their New Dark Matter to absorb bouncing laser light inside CD player

I bought a yoga matte and cut pieces out of it to put under the feet of all my components, works great for that. Isolation is in general not a difficullt or expensive thing to achieve. You just have to get creative.

I have it under my Gyrodec TT, works wonders. Very high value/price factor.
