ANIMAL TIMESTAMP CORRECTION MID-VIDEO: I got the timestamp wrong. If you don't want to see the rabid animals, they are shown from 14:25 - 17:00. 17 minutes, not the text on screen.

fun fact; Opossums can rarely get rabies due to their body temp, so Opossums are a mainly rabies free animal, they also eat ticks.

It will never not be heartbreaking seeing a rabid animal, just imagine how terrified and confused they must be :(

If you, get bit by a wild animal, GO TO THE EMERGANCY-ROOM/URGENT-CARE. Symptoms don't show until it's too late. 👏🏼👏🏼

What is the WORST thing that could happen disease wise?
Reading the news and the front page being "Rabies has gone airborne".

Literally one of my biggest fears.

Fun fact: it’s hypothesized that the legend of the werewolf came from rabies. It’s spread by biting, takes roughly 30 days (same as the lunar cycle) for the effect to present, and it turns humans into monsters.

There is something so frightening about seeing animals act in a way that is so out of character for them.

Reading the title I instantly knew what disease this was about. Rabies is truly terrifying, and I'm glad that I get to live in a country that enables me to get a shot if I suspect I might be at risk.

My mom works at a hospital and she recently had to treat a whole family with PEP for rabies. The family had just adopted a kitten that they had picked up specifically because of how affectionate it was towards them. Without warning, it switched from being sweet and cuddly to biting and scratching all of them. Within hours it was dead. They contacted a vet to see if anything could be done, and fortunately they told the family to go to the hospital immediately. The kitten later tested positive for rabies. The entire family would have certainly died without PEP.

A cat of mine died of rabies. I didn't even realise what it had been until I read Cujo and investigated the illness on my own.
We didn't even take it to the vet because it was so sudden. One day it was very sleepy and walked stiffly, the next morning it was dead with its muzzle all frothy. None of us were endangered by it, it didn''t bite or become aggressive. It was just tired and walked funny, poor dear. This was like 9 years ago now.

Can we all use this time to show some love and appreciation to the good ol' American opossum? They are so often accused of being disease carriers, rabies in particular, but they're actually very resistant! They're our only marsupial and I love them. ❤️

The biggest shock of this video is that rabies DOESNT happen in Australia.

When I was 16, I went on a trip to Thailand, and to a "monkey island", and while I was on the beach, a rabid monkey ran up and bit me. Immediately, the tour guide freaked out and got me home for emergency treatment asap (the bite broke the skin). Later on, I still have discolouration around my scar, but no rabies :)

If you get bitten by a wild animal, SEEK TREATMENT!!!! Symptoms don't show until it’s too late.

Rabies is terrifying but to me the scariest disease is something called fatal familial insomnia. It's a prion disease that causes you to not be able to sleep so you just stay awake until you die, usually within a few months to years after first symptoms, slowly degenerating over time.

well this explains why erratic movement is so vicerally terrifying. i always thought it was an uncanny valley thing but nope it *is* a sign of danger.

The clip of that man & his son absolutely broke my heart. That poor man is so confused & doesn’t understand why he’s tied down. I hope the son is okay & has found some peace.

We're rabies free in the UK, largely due to the efforts made in the 1960's and 1970's. I'm so grateful for it and wish we could help other countries more.

that mom in the first clip is the best example of parents suddenly having superpowers when they know their kid is in danger. bro just ripped that raccoon right off of her without a second thought. glad theyre both okay.

I watched Monsters Inside Me and this really sad episode where a young teen girl who lived on a farm, frequently caretaking the animals, ended up not being diagnosed until postmortem. Truly a heartbreaking story especially seeing the devastation in her parents

I live in Brazil, here the rabies are much more known for being passed by dogs, everyone I know is kinda terrified of them, because our parents always made sure to teach their kids about it. One time my friend and I were going home after school and a stray dog that was foaming by the mouth bit her, we went immediately to the hospital (which is completely free) and she got the vaccine, thank god she is ok ❤

Ps: Ignore my bad English, I am still learning
