It kinda reminds me of Final Destination 3. How the group all thought it was over but they ended up exactly where Death wanted them to, so it could finish its original plan.

In retrospect it is kinda weird how the series never really left the suburbs beyond going to movie sets.

It would be something if this was the opening scene: survivor Mindy is brutally attacked in the middle of a costume crowded subway in the presence of the other survivors, the attacker escape amongst the other Ghostfaces, she probably dies, her attack and murder catalyses the plot.
This is very evocative of Scream 2, it's like a mix of the opening theater Ghostface crowd death scene and the scene Sydney is attacked on stage by Ghostface and we're left questioning if it was real or ptsd.
