This film is part of the series The US Elections: Explained, which is made in collaboration with LSE United States Centre.

The main difference between left wing populists and right wing populists is who they consider to "corrupt elite" to be.

Former LSE United States Centre Visiting Lecturer Dr David Smith answers some the key questions about populism: how to define it, where it originated, and how it affects US politics.

This video is great but I think your diagnosis of right wingers hating political elite is kinda wrong. I think that the right wing populist with the big tech issue are increasingly being more and more anti oligarch, while also being anti elite politician!

it helps when THE EXPERTS don't constantly get caught lining their pockets nor ramming through policies that deplete the standard of living for 50 years straight.

Would be nice if the video wasn't biased. Notice the music you use for Trump vs Bernie. Also, you said "The base has many believers who think Trump is a fulfillment of biblical prophecy"...what!?

All definitions of populism change every year's election depending on who is the candidate we need to desapprove, because every year's election i've heard it, no matter if that guy is democrat or republican 🤷‍♂️

The movement of populism in this country has a name and gets a grade. It’s called Christian Nationalism and we’re Danger close. The actions, and the fallout of not putting it down are consequential.
