Funny you picked Tom and Jerry when you posted this video on Apr 4 2022... because as it turns out from an interview in July 2022, Oda actually claim Tom and Jerry as inspiration for Gear 5.

This shows those people who are complaining that gear 5 is too goofy that, that’s the whole point of gear 5. He looks badass but also super goofy. He even said he finally do whatever he wants. Bro went from having some powers that resemble cartoon like abilities being his past gears. To basically being a full cartoon character. Like when he got hit with the bat and his head transformed with it. It still hurt him but it didn’t affect him as much in gear 5 as it would without. That’s why I love that he’s so goofy but badass.

In the anime/manga series,  One Piece, the main protagonist,  Monkey D. Luffy, unlocks the true potential of his abilities, granting him various cartoonish abilities. According to the series creator,  Eiichiro Oda, these abilities were mostly inspired by the Tom and Jerry series.

I am a Japan person. Tom and Jerry were also very popular in Japan. On the contrary, I noticed that Tom and Jerry's action was very good in this video.

I always loved how One Piece (referring to the manga here) seemed really western-inspired compared to other manga, especially in super early pre-time skip. It looked so unique because of it. If you look at some of Oda’s really early drawings of One Piece, everyone looked so rubbery and cartoony, especially the animals. I always thought it was so cool and now it makes sense. I wish he kept that early style he had, although it was silly and somewhat disproportionate. It was so fun

Also loved the fact how at first Luffy said, " G4: boundman " As if he was gonna have different varieties of it.
I feel like he foreshadowed G4: snakeman from his training in the wilderness.

Or already had it through his training, and finally is actually using it.
