Nice video. Why not including a HDparm test and LSUSB info for each adapter?
sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda

in my experience, the most important thing is the controller chip of the adapters or enclosures. Some implementations might change for the same controller but comparison for the controller would be more informative for linux. Some adapters have a 12V power in port just for using with 3.5 inc drives, however they still function without external power supply -most cases-when they are attached to 2.5 inc drives and fully powered usb3.0 ports.

I'm glad it work for you, results are very similar to mine.

The 12v needed so it can run a 3.5" HDD (Not tried yet)

Normally I would troll the cheaper parts of eBay for such things but in this case it was worth paying that little bit more only a pound more to get one that was more compatible and much faster.

currently testing some 99p Usb 3 to SD adaptors (eBay) I'll let you know how I get on.

great video, I have had problems with cheap enclosures and some compatibility. I am going to order a CSL adapter and buy a power supply as I like to use a lot of old hard drives and sometimes need to access, and I want to see if it will work with a new generation blu-ray player.

As someone who struggled with various combinations of adapter and SSD, maybe you could do a review of the X857 board (Ali Express £16). Worked straight out of the box with a noname MSata and is superfast (Random Write ca 20000, random read ca. 11000). Love the channel.

Maybe for that CSL cable default mode is for SSD, while FIX goes if with 2.5" HDD or something :D

i would reccomend a usb to sata adapter with a seperate power port (usb or barrel jack)
i have one so i would reccomend it
only complaint is that it uses a barrel jack and that means that i have to have a power socket nearby
so you cant really use it as a portable drive

That CSL cable isn't available anywhere.... I guess you're pretty influential advertising wise...

looks great. I have an idea, maybe showing main results on chart ?

Two factors that can impact the numbers... 1 (which you didn't do) power or run the drive through a hub. 2 (which wasn't stated) Overclocking. I hope more people include these thing on their tests.

So... Did you have your Pi overclocked?

Thanks for doing the tests

just throwing this out there, i'm running retropie on an SSD (pi4 4gb), with mame2016... testing "demon front" a much harder to run "metal slug-ish" run-n-gun that never ran perfectly smooth before on a pi.... but runs perfect now.... also many of the more complex SHMUPS run great now... anyway, might be worth showing....

I was hearing without looking and I was pretty sure you said:
"On this 60 Gig Wu-Tang drive" @ 2:24

Note the 12v feed is only for 3.5 inch hard drives Lee

I wonder what the speeds would be if you used a hat that would power the pi 4 and release the USB C port for connecting storage? USB 3.1 to USB C cables run at 5gb where USB C to USB C is 10gb.

I've had some fascinating data - even trying a Pi 3 and USB 2.0. Got several cheap amazon cables - and to my surprise some are JMicron controllers, and some are not. I even got one of your CSL ones (ordered v quick. Knew they would vanish!), and had some issues, though fewer than other cables. Turns out a Pm863 960 GB SSD drive on ANY USB cable just doesn't seem to appear as a device. It's weird. Got a way to contact you to show you what I'm trying? - I think it's interesting data. Even with your CSL cable, on a Crucial M500 SSD and USB 2.0 the agnostics test comes up at about 9000 KB/s (fail) on the Pi 3. Need to test it on the Pi 4 next.

I just bought a Raspberry Pi 4 2GB and used a Samsung 32 EVO+ (usd) and also a Sandisk Cruzer Glide 64 (USB III) and none of them pass the test but they work.
Thank you for all your work 😀
