The dude's hand is literally on the wheel almost every clip...

This is great for R&D, but why have a more expensive car that requires 2 drivers?

I live in Vegas and was literally behind this car the other night. I absolutely stayed behind it as I would never want it behind me. When it fails and rear-ends me who pays the insurance claim? The safety driver? The other safety driver? The vehicle manufacturer? The systems designer? The camera image processing company? The sat-nav company? All I know is the idiot politicians in Nevada see a new shiny toy and they spent taxpayers' money to design a new license plate. This is not the future just as jet packs and personal commuter helicopters turned out not to be the future. Want to impress me?, figure out the technology to actually send a man to the moon.

It appeared as though the driver hit the breaks when the AV was cut off and he was grabbing the wheel I did see his hands hovering but more like taking the wheel.

Better stay in Nevada because AV rides in Cali are free state law.

What’s the point of a self driving Lyft if a driver has to operate the vehicle on private property AND remain in the driver’s seat during the entire ride?

If this was an ad for self driving car, then they did a really bad job. For the most part of the clip, the driver is on the wheel. He may not be driving totally, but he is still guiding the car which basically, destroys the whole purpose of it. Also, from what I understand, there's still a need of a (safety) driver who will start the car, drive on private property roads, and watches the vehicle's overall driving processes. If that is case, why bother on a self driving car? why not pay a regular driver instead? The company is still paying for monthly wages for a safety driver anyway. Wasnt to save cost the whole point of a self driving car (investor perspective)?

I cannot drive. I'm epileptic and my vision is damaged due to surgery. That being said I am looking forward to buy my own car

It's going to suck, until the day we are able to remove the driver completely.

Its autonomous like having to constantly monitor an 11 year old kid with ADD in the driver's seat is autonomous.

Yeah, I got on a Uber self driving ride.
The AI was purposely taking the loooong route.
And it had a Indian accent.

There's no point of a driverless vehicle if you have a driver in the front seat.

But serious question though: Can anyone point me to the insurance companies for these vehicles so I can get to buying stocks? Cuz they're about to be getting

We probably could have had "smart freeways" by now; instead of looking forward to cars that do it all

Why make the cars autonomous? Why not just build Androids to drive the cars?
