Alikes Mytilini Lesvos Greece
At the northern end of the Gulf of Kalloni on Ikaria are the Alikes, or salt marsh/wetlands. It is an area of about 3,500 acres. They represent a significant resource in the region and produce 30,000 tons of salt per year, of excellent quality. It is one of the most important wetlands in Greece. Many species of rare birds and birds shelter here. One of the most striking species are flamingos.
