Показать описание

The isolation of aspirin (O-acetylsalicylic acid) is a common organic chemistry laboratory experiment. The experiment demonstrates the general idea of a solid-liquid extraction. Commercial aspirin tablets are crushed, extracted with isopropanol, and filtered. Aspirin is then precipitated through addition of acidic water with a modest recovery of 24%. The identity of the product is confirmed based on the proton NMR spectrum and melting point.
