When working as a technician, I lost count of how many times I did this over the years... at least several thousand times! Most of the time, it was to replace the tube that had those types black spots that dead-lined the NVG. I suspect this was a blem kit that utilized coded-out tubes. To get a personal PVS-14 far cheaper than a new one, I would deal with the spots.
One note. If he were to take the NVG and put a fresh AA lithium in there, turn the gain all the way up and leave it in a completely dark spot several days straight, he might be able to reduce or if lucky, eliminate all but the largest spot. Sometimes, but not always.

Very Cool Video! Too bad that unit would have major issues in a State like Florida with High Heat and Humidity since the unit is not properly sealed and Purged with Nitrogen! But I would LOVE to be able to just build my own NVG! :) Next time you should wear Gloves and Ground yourself when handling the electrical board so you do not get a Static Discharge!

i broke one of the circuit interupt leads on the battery compartment and the pin on the housing, is this a magnetic switch meant to turn on and off with some mounts? will it work without them?

Did you purchase a blem tube, or was that crud on the lens of the image tube? If so, did you tear it back apart and clean it to remove them?

Wow what is the markup on these things? So all these companies are doing it just ordering tubes and putting them into housing? How much does it cost to do it yourself as opposed to buying from a manufacturer? If we're talking Gen 3

I like the Ultimate NV kit. Not sure about the power supply though, double battery housing vs single battery housing. Do some housings take CR123 batteries? Wouldn't those be better?

Why did you decide that image intensifier tube?
It yours able to adjust the gain?
There't not a lot of comparison/information out there about these image intensifier tubes. Which is weird because they are pretty critical to seeing at night.

Do you know if an 11769 can use the double aa battery housing or does it need to be the 1 battery housing.
