In Michigan teachers can be fired for striking (against their workplace). That's why a few years ago, Detroit teachers did "sick-outs" where many teachers called off work and there weren't enough to have school. I am a teacher. I have been to a couple protests and it hasn't affected my job. I have posted on social media about being anti-charter school when I work for a charter school (its helpful to NOT HAVE YOUR COWORKERS AS FRIENDS). Inside the classroom, if a student asks about how I feel about so-so, I'll tell them. I've told students I dislike Trump. I told students today Amazon is a terrible company because they asked if I had Amazon prime. But I don't bring it up myself (I teach math anyway)

I doubt they can. Unless they bring it into the classroom trying to indoctrinate young maleable minds. In those cases I hope they can be fired.

Short answer: No.
Long answer: No, teachers cannot be fired from their job for expression of their views, so long as it doesn't enter the classroom with them. Such a firing would be illegal, although I'm sure they happen anyway.

Teachers in NJ cannot protest. And it can give the public the impression that we don’t care to that degree.

Teacher who are wrongfully arrested can lose their job too

Teachers were fired for refusing to sign anti-BDS

My favorite high school teachers were selectively/carefully political in the classroom and they allowed/encouraged dissent

My art teacher in 9th grade was an attractive woman in her early 20s. She had an apartment only a stones throw from our highschool. She got arrested because her live in boyfriend was one of the upperclassmen and they were distributing weed and other more illicit drugs from home. Just wanted to share that and say I wish I was that boyfriend, straight up legend

I'm not technically a teacher, I'm a tutor working through AmeriCorps and when I'm on AmeriCorps time I'm required to be politically neutral. Then again I work mostly with five year olds.
On the other hand when I was pursuing my BA one of my classmates was an older gentleman (I use the term loosely) wanting to be a teacher. He was looking to "bring conservative values back into the classroom." Said values included being able to own an assault rifle if you wanted to.

As long as they don’t do it in classrooms they should not be bothered. Outside of the classrooms we don’t care.

Teachers who don’t wanna teach and don’t care about the students than they need to be released or be fired you don’t do whatever you want you have to do what the school tells you to do

Education shouldn't be limited, teachers should be allowed to talk about politics in classrooms as well, of course there should be a specific time for that, else the precious time of students would be all used up on political ramblings.

The constant pressures exerted on teachers won't do well for the whole classroom, children aren't as unobservant as we think they are and their lives will be negatively affected by the oppressive environment.

Yes. The country allows for free speech but industry determines if your speech does not align their goals, which can allow them to determine if they want you or not.

In college you can be political if you introduce both sides. Back when I was in college they talked on both sides and you got to make up you own mind. They were their to stimulate and help you find out what you believed and why, not tell you what you should believe.

Can they be fired for activism outside the classroom: yes (although they'd win their appeal on the right to privacy), should they: no.

What someone does in their private life should not be a factor due to the right to privacy under the constitution. If they bring it into the classroom then it's a problem.

Y'all should look up City Year AmeriCorp. Its a program where you work as a teacher's aid. The schools in this country are so fucked up and I worked with multiple children who could not read because their parents didnt teach them.

I really hate how these callers waste David's time thanking him. No respect for his time.

Taking just one minute from the show to thank him might not seem like a lot to them, but when three or four people do it, that's one less segment or clip that David can upload. It hurts the show and it makes it less enjoyable for us

in short no it is a violation of Rights as an American and universal human rights to fire someone for expressing their beliefs. They can and should be reprimanded however for forcing students to adopt them or to feign adopting them.

You’d be surprised how powerful word problems can be in a math classroom
