Businesses blindsided after governor gives ‘yellow light’ on reopening

Business owners got the rug pulled out from under them just 4 hours before midnight that Multnomah County would not reopen.

I am so frustrated. I haven’t been able to work for 2 months due to covid. I still haven’t received a dime in unemployment and now I can’t go back to work???!!. How do they expect us to support ourselves? My heart goes out to those struggling as well. I feel our government has failed us.

Everyone compares the recent protests to the government recommendations and restrictions. One of the big differences is that when the government tells people to wear masks, practice hygiene, wash hands, avoid people, practice distancing, etc and then individual people choose to disregard those recommendations for whatever reason, the egg is on the faces of those individual people if they get sick as a result of those actions. But when the government tells everyone it's OK to go back into the pool, and a ginormous outbreak happens as a result of their bad advice getting applied to the entire population (and not just the 1% who are out protesting) not only is it a much bigger problem but then the government has some blood on its hands. And no sane politician wants that.
