How to use Microsoft Paint in Windows 11

MS Paint wasn’t actually updated with the new operating system. It was rolled out a couple of days after Windows 11 release. You don’t need to update it manually, if you have installed Windows 11 on your PC, your MS Paint will automatically be updated.

As mentioned above, the look has changed completely. You will see the rounder corners, changed toolbar icons and symbols, and a new UI. You will also see a drop-down menu for brushes with different types of brushed mentions and a new round color palette. This might not sound like a big change but you will literally feel the change while using the app. It’s way better now and feels like all new.

Why is no one mentioning the fact that the updated Paint app will not allow you to hide/unhide the ribbon? And why didn't they fix the zoom in and out feature so you can zoom to the precise size you need in order for the entire section to be visible in order to select and crop? The zoom out is in 25% increments (100%, 75%, 50%, 20%) and the zoom in is 100% and then 200%. The other Microsoft products I use (Word, Excel) allow the ribbon to hide/unhide, and allow precise zooming percentages, but Paint, the one app in which being able to see specific sections at the correct size for selecting/cropping, touching up photos, etc., does not let you zoom in at the percentage you need. And now, ON TOP OF THAT, you cannot increase the visible work space by collapsing the tool ribbon..

I just replaced my 15" (Windows 10) laptop with a smaller one, (13.3") which has Windows 11. I use Paint A LOT to crop screenshots that are taken during Teams meetings. Even on my old (larger) screen, I often have needed to collapse the ribbon temporarily in order to view/select the target area at 50% zoom. On my new laptop, the new toolbar takes up almost 1/3 of my smaller screen, and now, they have removed the hide/unhide feature on the ribbon. Without collapsing the ribbon, at 50% zoom, the bottom of the targeted selection area is just barely below the bottom of the screen. So in order to view the entire area I need to select, I have to zoom out to 25% to see the entire image. At 25%, I cannot even SEE, much less SELECT the edges of the target area accurately.

This is a deal-breaker for me. Thank God I still have my old laptop. So now if I need to crop screenshots or touch up photos, I have to move images from my new laptop on a thumb drive to my old laptop just so I can crop my images. Major fail, Microsoft.

Hope that "Image properties" and "Page setup" dialogs get redesigned too.

You are assuming that we all know the earlier versions. We don't! that's why we searched for a tutorial, not a quick flyover that tells us nothing!

When I erase something on my drawings, the erased area has grey squared traces. How do I remove those?

I only used the previous version of Paint to copy and paste any image and make a .jpg, which this does not talk about how to do so the entire app is now useless to me. Now I have to research how to just do that function.

You missed the actual changes and just talked about visual changes. For example, when you drag one side of a rectangle both sides resize on center, so now you can't to pin one side or corner where you want it then drag the other side to its desired position. Or as mentioned by others, the solid and transparency options seem to be missing.

How do you customize the color palette so that I have specific colors in the palette and don't have to edit colors every time?

You have skipped the two icons which are not open. In between shape and size. Earlier, choices were SOLID and TRANSPARENCY which is missing now. I don't find this version of win 11 better then earlier version. 😃

The icon for resizing an image is inactive on a .JPG image, apparently without reason...

I can move the cursor along the tools on my own. I expected you will show me HOW to use all the features and not some of them. Big dislike.
