I Asked ChatGPT to Fix Fallout New Vegas, It Didn't Go Well

For years, I've been told that ChatGPT is going to replace human input for everything from content creation, to cybersecurity. so I decided to see what it would be like if ChatGPT wrote my videos... it didn't go as planned.

I used Chat GPT only once: I asked who'd win in a fight - a lumberjack with tentacle arms or a shark ok a unicycle. It was terrible - Chat GPT didn't want to respond at all and stayed very vague and answered stuff like "both are formidable adversaries". After specifying that the fight would take place on land and that it is a white shark Chat GPT finally decided that the shark would which does not make any sense as the fight takes place on land and the shark would die WITHOUT a fight.

It's nothing more than a fancy autocomplete; the more you give it as context, the better the produced output. Give it the full documentation of an API and it will be able to write wrappers for it

In my opinion chat GPT was severely dummed down in last half a year or so. I believe there are more powerful and more capable versions of GPT s inside the OpenAI laboratories, but not the same model that we have access to

If you encountered modern AI in a vacuum, where it wasn't surrounded by hype and terror, it would actually be really cool. I tend to use is as a way to help brainstorm or create reference art, then almost completely ignore it's output and do it myself. It does help get me out of my own head. I'm glad the hype bubble is bursting though.

I've used ChatGPT quite a bit, just to see what it is, for inspiration, or ideas of how to write letters, and all that stuff I really suck at. It's never completely right, but it gets me moving in a direction. For my work however... It's quite useful in writing boilerplate code, and can even do some interesting stuff, but I do need to babysit it. Its mistakes can be subtle, but quite critical. But when I want it to really help with the (slightly) more difficult stuff, it's completely useless. E.g. trying to write an asn.1 decoder or whatever.

I've had people calling me naive (or dumb) because I said that teaching will not be replaced by AI any time soon. Those people really underestimate how most people simply WANT a real person interacting with them. They won't care if AI is cheaper or equally effective, they just feel better having a human dealing with them because it makes the experience more enjoyable, enganging and memorable. That's also true for entertainment and art, it just subjectively feels better for most of the public when they know SOMEBODY did what they're seeing, not "something".

Not to mention that in ANY subject, newcomers/laymen can be MASSIVELY impaired. I absolutely suck at anything with numbers, for instance, and I've had students that couldn't learn a new language in under two years if their lives depended on it, so I really don't believe AI would be able to teach people with severe struggles on a subject even IF they were ok with not being taught by a person.

There's nothing new about the modern wave of AI tools. ChatGPT does the exact same thing chess computers were doing 50 years ago, but with better hardware and significantly more data. It's useful in certain areas but not nearly as complicated or incredible as so many Ai fanatics will have you believe

I did comm in the marine corps. Went to several Cisco classes because we use Cisco call manager and Cisco switches/routers. I could only imagine the hazing that would happen if pfc shmuckitelly tried to shortcut with ai and the mess it'd create.

Not personally, but people I've worked with have used AI like ChatGPT for markering copy....it went as well as you think it did when it came across my desk.
