Groot taking off the Happy Hoodie so her locks could flow freely in the wind...this is the energy we need today!

Her: “These are the smartest dogs in the world.”

The dog: “Right. So if I don’t want to wear this happy hoodie, I won’t.”

I have a border collie/Labrador cross. He's in charge of protecting the chickens that free range on my land. We’ve never lost a bird since he’s been alive, but that’s not because we tried training him in livestock protection. I mean, we did give him that training, but at every turn he found better and more effective ways to do his job. I stopped trying to tell him what to do and just trust him to take care of things which he does.

Apart from trying to escape the bath and not liking the happy hoodie, she was very well-behaved, especially for a first time! She did especially fantastic with the dryer!

Clever girl. I could tell she was nervous, but Groot handled it like a champ.

I had a border collie and a Red Heeler growing up. I was by far the dumbest of the three of us. Miss them so much..

We had a border collie in England when I was a toddler. I escaped my home and Cindy, came and found me and held the hem of my dress in her teeth and gently lead me back home and would not allow anyone near me. Sadly, we could not bring her to Canada when we emmigrated in '69 so we had to give her away, but my mum still remembers that story vividly. I love these beautiful animals.

Another fun fact: their joints operate more similarly to a cat, than a dog. This allows them to do that "crouching Tiger" crawl, which allows them to be extra stealthy when herding.

She has a dog bone pattern in her nose! She's so precious.

2:00 - such a small gesture here but I thought it was really sweet. Letting Groot smell the scissors and then waiting for her to move her head away from them before continuing with the grooming. It's clear how much you love and care for these dogs.

When I was a kid, Max the neighbourhood border collie used to follow our group around everywhere, especially when we were on bikes. He'd even nip at the bike tires if we weren't watching. He was just always there, circling around us but never directly engaging the group. I guess we were being herded.

Looks like she was happy after getting rid of the happy hoodie. She didnt care that it was for her safety.

I can see her thinking when you brush her. She's actually pondering and contemplating. My shih tzu just stares around blankly

I always tell people to be aware that herding dogs require a lot of patience. They can't help their energy levels and need to herd. Humans need lots of training to take care of a herding dog but they are so sweet that it's worth it.

“Border collies are the most intelligent breed in the world” I can guarantee my border collie has single handedly lowered the entire breeds bell curve with her stupidity

“Border collies are the smartest dog in the worl.”
Me looking at my border collie who chases refecltions and occasionally runs into walls: ehh it’s hit or miss.

She's a beauty but I love how you respond to her not liking the hoodie.

Distant family member had a border collie. He was fantastically clever, and would herd the rabbits into their hutch from all over their garden by racing around in front of them and stamping his front feet until they turned around and went in the direction he wanted them to.

He had a box of toys, all with different names, and he knew them all. He was asked to "fetch grandpa" while I was there once. Grandpa was a Postman Pat toy - named after her Dad who was a postie. It was at the bottom of the box, but he'd dig through the other toys and bring grandpa. Then he was asked to "fetch my new socks" and he'd run upstairs and come down with a pair of balled-socks. But they were the wrong ones, so she'd emphasise, "No, my NEW socks", and he'd race back upstairs with the wrong ones, returning seconds later with the right pair.

It was amazing to see first hand.

Collies are so smart that my wife and I constantly have to come up with new and creative ways to talk about things that cause him to get excited (treats, toys, walks or any kind of outing) or stressed (baths, or anything he is afraid of which is everything). Originally we used alternative words but then he learned them, so we switched, and then again. Sometimes we will use foreign words or archaic English to trick him but sometimes he still catches on. He seems to read our body language or something, he knows we are trying to be secretive.
