The Fanatec CSL DD is real. Jokingly referred to as the DD 0.5 on April 1st by Fanatec. They're actually releasing it as a replacement to the CSL Elite belt driven wheel. This is a $350 (Euro) Direct Drive Sim Racing wheel. This could really shake up the entry-level to prosumer/enthusiast market.

Edits/Addendum:

on reddit noted you can see the USB-C connector on the end of the shaft at attaches to the rotor. I hadn't noticed that. Presumably the QR V2 will swap in that way.
He also noted in the Fanatec Blog/Forum post someone stated the CSL DD is ~15mm less wide than the DD1/2

Very interesting product. Most people don't need the crazy forces - in my opinion the biggest benefit of the DDs is the immidiate reaction of the wheel!

It’s crazy that someone finally has an affordable DD wheel. I may pick this up since it’s a good start into the DD world without breaking the bank.

you know whats interesting, people are kind of complaining about the 5nm peak and 8nm with booster pack but they are forgetting that the CSL range of wheels is limited to 8nm peak on the DD1 and DD2 unless you upgrade to a clubsport or podium quick release. so clearly the CSL DD is designed to be used with CSL rims like the mclaren v2 and the new CSL quick release they designed and if you have a podium DD then clearly you will be using a clubsport quick release and higher end wheels also. it perfectly integrates into the CSL ecosystem with the option to upgrade multiple parts if you so wish, that being the quick release, the wheel hub, the power, its legit future proof which is something really really nice about fanatec, they dont seem to be dropping support for anything, its all designed to be upgraded as the upgrades come about.

I believe it is a step to the right direction from Fanatec, it definetly hit the market hard.

I think this is a really smart move from Fanatec. It introduces entry to mid level enthusiast to the Fanatec ecosystem and gives these drivers a path to upgrade as they immerse themselves deeper into their hobby. I have been looking to upgrade from my G27. I was going to go for the Thrustmaster wheel just because of the price point, however the CSL DD pricer point has me doing a complete 180. I'm looking forward to the preorder announcement.

What do you think of the features and especially price point for this new budget oriented Direct Drive wheelbase?

Tbh people need to keep in mind that's 349.99 for just the base and then 480 with the boost kit to make it 8nm then you have to add a wheel which is a few hundred minimum and then there pedals sure you can get the new csl pedals for 110 because you def want want clutch guys just in case but then a load cell will come out later and you will have to spend more for that right now as is I say buy the csl elite pedals with the load cell at minimum so 480+250rim+220pedals so yeah still a bit but def the best price for a full setup of any dd wheel on the market and tbh its the fanatec ecosystem which to me makes it worth it off the bat the drivers will come out later improving the wheel even further and the early reviews from people that have tested them are already saying it gets close to the dd1 with feel just not as strong of course which this is a huge statement as no fanstrc base has felt just right out of the gate on release it takes them a while to dial it in to make it better like the dd1 and dd2 took a yesr to get them to feel like they do now as most said out of the box it felt alot like the cswv2.5 now therr is a nice difference so yeah good stuff can't wait that's for sure I'm deciding tho if I should just fork over the money for the f1 podium for 1799.99 for the dd1 and my favorite f1 wheel on the market haha we shall see I'll see what I choose haha

I think for the price its a great deal, that should have Thrustmaster and Logitech worried

Nice video ... solid breakdown on what we know so far. I think this is a great product - compelling enough for CS 2.5 owners to consider. I almost suspect they have a 12nm version (shown in the BMW content) that could wind up being the CS 3.0 or something. And speaking of long in the tooth designs - Fanatecs pedals need a high end option akin to Heusinkvelds.

only thing thats bad is that I Need to buy the podium hub in order to use a non fanatec wheel.

You pronounce 'Fanatec' like 'Fanatic'... Not 'Fan-A-Tech'... FYI. Love your channel. 😋👍

Have a look at the images provided, as there appears to be very specific spacing of the fines at 40mm..!!! 🤔 Also.., note the shape of the extrusion..!!! 🤔 That certainly looks as though it's compatible with a standard "T-NUT"..!!! 👍💯😉 I'd suspect side mounting is supported after all..!!! 👏💯😎

Fanatec just moved the market in a big way likely ending up in best buy an Wal-Mart in a huge way. Most people online I hear from are turning down the torque on their high end DD's anyway. This will get their ecosystem into big box retailers. The 250 dollar McLaren wheel now could sit aside of the new direct drive in Best Buy easily.
