If You use B&W or ABW mode, you can not use ICC profiles

This a little detail that often is misunderstood.
B&W mode in CANON Printers and ADVANCED Black and White in EPSON Printers DOES NOT Utilize Color management from you r editing application.
You must let your Driver control color and not the APP or you will get a color cast due to Double Profiling.

Jose - your videos are a God send! I've been racking my brains for the past month on why I can't select an ICC profile for an Ilford paper when choosing black and white in the driver when printing from Photoshop. Now it makes sense :) Thank you so much. One of the most informative videos for 2mins :)

The best option then is to use the papers ICC profile?

Great videos, being a Pixma Pro 100 owner, these are of great value. For Canon BW mode, how does the paper color/tone come into play? Say you're using BW mode and print same image on 3 different papers, one is almost pure white, one is bluish, and one is fairly yellow paper? Does the image come out looking neutral on each of these papers, or is there any color cast introduced? I'm not concerned about the blue/yellow tone of paper coming through, but does the ink show any kind of color cast like magenta on the different papers? Appreciated, keep up the great videos.

Hi Jose I've been following you for quite a while and thank you for all the time and vast information you give, I have a Pro-1 that I haven't used for 2 years and is boxed up, I was in the process of moving and never got round to unpacking and using the printer again, I know a few inks ran out before I had packed up the printer, my question to you is I wish to use this printer again, what would be the process to best use it again after 2 years, should I just turn it on and hope for the best or am I likely to run into problems, I wish to use 3rd party inks like PC sets in the future, thanks for your time :)

Hi, I'm trying to print with the Canson Baryta Prestige. I did the paper calibration with a custom paper made from the Baryta as a base paper and using the ICC profile from Canson. Printing with ICC has a slightly green/yellow cast. Printing with BW mode using the Canon Plug-in turn out more "neutral" looking and 5000k light. My monitor is calibrated at D50. Looking with softproof on in lightroom or photoshop and paper simulation on I can see this yellow/green cast. Well long story, but what do you recommend? Print with ICC Profile or BW mode? My printer is a Canon Pro 1000

Is this true with both OEM inks and third party inks such as Precision Colors? I have been using ABW & B&W modes on my Canon Pro 100 and Epson 3880 using ICC profiles either from the paper manufacturers or my own custom profiles and they turn out perfect with no color casts.

I have a great doubt and ask jose, what if one left only the 3 black and white inks of the pro 10 just to print black and white images? have you tried this ?, in practice you can or the printer will not let you operate only with 3 inks ?, in that case the prints in byn would improve or even so it is always necessary that the other inks play a role in the compensation of the tones ?

Jose i am a bit lost here tbh because in lightroom ive been choosing an icc profile and also ticking the b&w option in lightrooms orinter settings also. If i shouldnt be using an icc should i just be bypassing it altogether? And also while bypassing setting an icc profile through lightroom should i just be setting the type of paper im using through the printers interface?
