Why I stopped watching YouTube (and why you should too)

What is the problem with Youtube? It's the year 2023 and everybody has a screen addiction at this point. The dangerous effects of Social media are known but Youtube is often treated apart from it. This will only get worse over time.

Perfectly sums up where I'm at. I have no other social media at all, just YouTube. I've been on youtube for a good 15 years and have used it daily for probably 11-12 years. I've definitely learned a lot and enjoy the educational content but I spend far too much time consuming non-educational videos. I've got to make a change and this is something I've known for a while. Glad to see this video. I've installed "distraction free youtube" and "youtube time" which limits your watch time. Let's all get through this together.

It's so true. YouTube addiction hasn't been acknowledged as much as addictions for other platforms, even though it's just as easy to fall into (or easier, as I never really even had a problem with the other platforms).

I am right there. I had come to the realization I needed to eliminate social media and other bad habits. And I did...except for youtube. It's time. I have no idea why this was in my recommended but I thank you.

It's been 11 years and I hate that I watch so much YouTube, it has ruined my life and wrecked my intellectual development. This addiction has to be widely recognised lest we lose an entire generation to this

When I started Uni I found it a great tool (on occasion) for certain things like adding an effect for a video I was doing on a filming course. When I finished Uni that is when it took hold. Thanks for the video btw

one thing that i think can help all the bros out there is probably to pause your youtube search history, this way you can stop the youtube explore page to force feed you content right as you try using youtube for anything else

Do you notice how they're changing the UX/UI elements? Animated & flashy. Your slot machine analogy is perfect. If you see this. Stop scrolling. Don't let these social media platforms control your life & attention.

The problem with the extension is that it can be easily disabled. I wish there was a way to lock the settings for a period of time.
