My first Higashino book was Malice too! I loved it! And I read Suspect X and Salvation of saint after that. I'm going to try reading one of his books that's not translated in English. It is called 予知夢. I think it will take me a year or more to read it because I read super super slow in Japanese 😬

Having read most of those... I think your recommendation is excellent - enticing without spoiling. No idea whether these are translated into English yet but I recommend the pair of "I Killed Him" and "Who Killed Her". Unrelated stories but similar in some aspects (I'll leave those to you to find out); the former also uses the narrative-switching format similar to Malice. His first novel ("After School" is the Chinese title) is also a good read.

Malice was my first also but I listened to it and LOVED IT- I'm listening to Newcomber, I like it but the narrator makes the detective sound so cheesy- different tone then Malice buuut the whole book IS a bit cheesy ( wholesome- like u say) however it's still an awesome mystery. I was looking for a video of someone who read all or a lot of his books so I'm glad I found this- right now you're the only one on here that I could locate that goes through them. Keep posting videos. You're doing well :)

This was great! I've never read anything by this author. Of course I can only find Naoko used for $50 ... so I won't be starting with that one 😂
I did ordered Malice and The Devotion of Suspect X. Always a pleasure seeing you 💖

IMO Higashino is an uneven writer, the general store book (sorry I don’t know the English titles) is one of my favorites of his.
His actual mysteries that I’ve read aren’t all satisfying. Specifically I just read one about a bomb threat at a ski resort, it was fine in terms of suspense and excitement towards the end. The mystery itself was uninspired and the actual solution was anticlimactic in the extreme (also from the start I was wondering what danger a bomb concealed under several feet of hard packed snow could actually pose unless it was large enough so as to reveal its location)

While I’ve read several other books of his, none have really knocked my socks off as mysteries.
I think he’s much better at pathos than constructing great mysteries.

They only translated two of his book into Arabic (Salvation of a saint & the devotion of suspect X). I am a sLOW reader..
Like i finish a book in a year but when I read Salvation of a saint, i finished it in a month! It was really light, but loved it. Just purchased the devotion of suspect x :D

I just finished reading kirin no tsubasa translated as A death in Tokyo. I found it to be way more dramatic than thrillery. Has anyone else read it? Is it the only one that’s super dramatic or is it his thing?
