How Our Garden Survived APHIDS | Delicious Winter Garden Harvest 2021 | Guten Yardening
It is mid-February here in zone 5 Wisconsin. The temperatures outside have not been above 10F for well over a week, but indoors our garden is thriving, and we are ready for another garden harvest and update.
This winter harvest comes after we have had to struggle with an aphid infestation that could have destroyed our entire indoor garden, but because we aggressively attacked the aphids with diatomaceous earth (DE) and then ladybugs, we were able to stop the spread of the aphids and within a week kill most of the aphid population.
As a result, our organic vegetables including our radicchio, lettuce, beans, and microgreens are growing and providing us with high quality organic produce that we can add to our meals.
Our success with these natural and organic means of removing the aphids does not mean that we can become less vigilant in monitoring for these pests, but it does mean that we can ensure our garden continues successfully indoors for the remainder of the winter as we continue to prep for the spring garden.
Please enjoy this partial garden tour as we have another garden harvest 2021 experience!
