Acura RDX review after 65000 miles of daily use. Is the newest iteration Good or Bad?

this long term review consists of my personal 2019 acura rdx I purchased when it was only 1 year old with very low miles. Sure it's had some problems but is it worth it? or should you keep looking?

So true about the touch pad.. once you get use to it.. set it and forget, i wonder how many times people keep touching their's. I hate finger prints on a touchscreen

Bought this car from Copart recently and shipped to UA, 2019 Advance trim. Love this car, unfortunatelly no auto-folding mirrors in the US version

I have a 2019 RDX A-Spec - about 100, 000 km (62, 000 mi).

Good review! One observation - the drive button that switches between "D" and "S" - it seems you're not aware that "S" mode works with the paddle shifters, so it doesn't upshift until you get to the higher RPM range as it's expecting you to do so

My observations after 6 years with this car:

Love:
- one of the nicest looking SUVs, especially with the red leather seats
- super comfortable, even driving long distances. Heated AND cooled seats
- reliable for the most part... I did have a broken rear window but I assumed it was vandalism as it was a giant hole in the middle as if someone had taken a hammer to it (dealer replaced it under warranty); also recently I started getting water leaking into the cabin which caused the electronics to go haywire - turns out it was blocked sunroof drainage tubes - which can't be cleared out and need to be replaced - cost $2, 000 and it wasn't covered by my extended warranty (I've got a complaint filed with Acura and it sounds like they might compensate me - stay tuned). (Dealer said this is an acknowledged design flaw.)
- remote starter - using my key fob - range is several blocks!
- regular maintenance cost is reasonable
- car auto locks after you walk away from the car

Not crazy about:
- the touch pad for the entertainment system - the issue here is it was designed for the built-in menu/apps, but I almost exclusively use Apple CarPlay (maps, Spotify, texting) and the touchpad requires you to "tab" from one area of the screen to the next - you can't just reach out and touch the button you want. Having said that, I rented a car with a touch screen and I found it awkward to aim my finger at what I wanted to touch which is distracting, so maybe it's not so bad after all...
- the built in navigation system is not very good (I don't use it - see above); and the voice commands for the overall system are very limited (why can't I use it to set the cabin temperature?)
- the drive selector - seems every mode - park, reverse, drive - requires a different kind of hand movement which is very confusing at first. But you do get used to it
- the side view mirrors tend to get stuck when it's very cold (won't fold out - need to force them manually)
- requires premium (actually it drives ok on regular but why buy a car like this and stifle its performance?)
- I expected better gas mileage - under optimum conditions - long, steady highway - I've gotten 8L/100km (29.4 MPG) which is good but in mixed city/highway it's more like 11 (21.4 MPG) or 12 (19.6).
- with remote start, there's no way to program what you want the cabin temperature to be (winter or summer)

Hate:
- the AcuraLink app is useless - they expect you to pay a yearly subscription (although the first year is free) to use it - for even simple things like checking your fuel and oil level

Overall, I'd say I'd buy another. Especially if they eventually offer a hybrid version.

Great mention about 91 or better octane. Yes, this vehicle requires premium unlike what the gas cap states.

Got the same spec but in grey and we had our back window pop just like your in our driveway. Dealership wont cover it under defeat and no open recall on that glass yet, which from so many people have similar issue should be a recall.

Glad I found this video. I’m in Canada and planning to buy a used RDX from 2019-20-21 model years. I was told that 2019-20 has some issues as it was redesigned. 2021 was better and 2022 and later will be the best one to buy. Do you think buying a 2020-21 has some serious issues that’s expensive to fix? I think it being a higher Honda, shouldn’t be that expensive. And other than regular oil changes what else do you need to keep it running fine?

I have a 2019 RDX advanced, the main camera above rear view mirror went out at 17000 miles, cost me $2300.00 to replace. Now I’m at 18000 miles and the suspension is bad, that’s going to cost me maybe $4, 000. I’m retired so as you can see I don’t drive a lot . I do love this car but now looking for a new car that won’t have all the bells and whistles for things to go wrong. I’m very sad 😢 I’m looking at 2025 Toyota

What do you think of those red dials? I kinda don’t like them. Looks like it’s hard to read, but what do you think?

Also it does pipe in the engine sound unfortunately. To me there isn’t a point in doing it.

Sorry for your octane choice, 2022 and up is 91 octane recommended not required

So u haven't had rear glass issues? Or roof glass creaking?

Nvm lmao
They really need to recall the glass. My girlfriend is like " if that glass breaks while the babies are in there.. 😡"
I'm like, yeaaa but it looks great tho 😅

Did you have to pay for the back window?

Hopefully, you got extended warranty. You don't want to spend $5K on a new turbo when it inevitably fails.

the mode button or "Placebo mode button" is the most stupid gimmick Acura marketing could have invented and invested on. Does nothing for their cars!
