Nobody is in Hell right now

There seems to be confusion, especially on the difference between Hades and Hell.

I think a better title for this message would be: Nobody's in the lake of fire right now.

Wherever the dead and damned are now, I'm certain it's not a happy place. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

I think you need to go into defining all the relevant words for this topic because if they mean hell as in Hades the storing place and the lake of fire as the final destination then yeah people are in hell, but it seems you're defining hell as the lake of fire rather than hades or sheol.

Happy future everyone. Thanks for the encouraging words Mike. Glad to see you're such a kind hearted and generous person who has the best in mind for others.

The story of Lazarus and the rich man (Luke 16:23-24) would indicate that people are in hell right now, in a sense. It's a place of fiery torment, but it's not an eternal destination like the lake of fire, where they will eventually be thrown (Revelation 20:14).

Would love to see a more in-depth video on this, Abraham's Bosom, Sheol, Tartarus etc.

All I know is I don't want to turned into fried chicken. Heaven with the Lord all the way. God bless

I always thought “hell” & “hades” are interchangeable. Also, I see hell/hades like county jail, then your trial at the Great White Throne judgement, and then you are sent to the lake of fire in the same way you would serve your final sentence in federal prison. Again, I am looking at this from a judicial processing point of view.

You're accidentally mixing up the lake of fire with hell

The problem with everyone having their own interpretation

Yeah this is a tough situation to explain so quickly. The Bible uses multiple words that mean different things but our translations miss that sometimes.

You have, Sheol, Gehenna, hades, and the lake of fire.

Sheol is the Hebrew word for the grave. Hades is the Greek word for the place of the dead, basically the grave or the same as Sheol. Gehenna is a Hebrew/Aramaic word or name for a location in which the ancient Israelites sacrificed their children to Molech. The New Testament seems to use this word to depict what the mainstream idea of hell is, a place of fiery torment. And finally, the Lake of Fire, this seems to also be Hell in the sense that it is burning fiery torment forever.

All this is to point out that the word Sheol and Hades both do not seem to be referring to hell in the sense of a place of torment, although it is translated as such most of the time. Those two words speak of the place of the dead. However Gehenna and The Lake of Fire are referring to the eternal place of torment we understand Hell to be.

So it’s just a misunderstanding based on not ideal translation. Like Mark points out most likely the Bible is saying that when you die as a non believer you end up in Sheol, briefly described in the parable of the rich man and poor Lazarus and shown not to be a great place, until the day of judgment when every non believer is cast into the lake of fire which is hell. Hence why revelation states death and hades was thrown into the lake as well, death being the act of dying no longer will exist nor will the place of the dead, I.e. hades.

My theory is based on the fact that we don't understand how time works. I figure when each of us die, we instantly go to Judgement Day. So when we die it will appear as though all of humanity that ever was and ever will be have died at the same time. Heaven, hell and the entire afterlife exist outside of our current perception of time.

Exactly. My dad did an in- depth study on Hell, and this is what he found, too. Simple enough that anyone who wants to verify it can, too!

"no one is in hell at the moment" I'd beg to differ...

3 different Greek words were translated to Hell:
1. Tartaroo - to incarcerate in eternal tornment (used only to angels)
2. Hades - Grave or Burial Place
3.Gehenna - everlasting punishment, mostly used into the fire (used in Mat, Mar, Luk, Jam)
The thing with english confusion, is the abiguity of words/terms when they were translated. Old english used Hell to refer to grave back then.

Edit: fixed some spelling

Pastor Mike, I would like to express my hope that you will go into this in greater detail. Hell (Gehenna) is a very sensitive issue for both believers and non-believers alike- for some, it is the principle reason why they either accept or reject God. (Out of fear or principle respectively)

Clarity on the doctrine would be very helpful, especially given the annihilationist view of Ghenna (one I've heard is that references to it are 1. referring to the literal Valley of Ghenna and that 2. those who are cast into it are just... dead. No eternal torment, just being dead completely and utterly. Jesus saying "rather, fear the one who can destroy both body and soul in Hell" as well as the weeds being thrown into the fire and destroyed would seem to fit with this view.

I disagree brother. The thing is the lake of fire and hell are different places. Hell is occurring right now at the end, hell will be thrown into the lake of fire

Amazing teaching brother.❤️✝️. The book of James always made me nervous and full of anxiety. I thought I wasn’t showing enough works to make it into heaven. However, you have shown the context and given me clarity and understanding. Thank you. Christ is the reason why I’m going to heaven✝️❤️

Hell is now. Lake of fire is later. Rich man died and lifted his eyes in hell. Lazarus died and went to Abraham's bosom. Hades or Hell is a current reality.
