102. Glazing Dinner Plates - testing 21 glaze combinations

Показать описание
Last week I made 25 new plates using three different kinds of clay. This week I am going to glaze them using 7 different glazes.

In this video I will talk about the glazes I have chosen, and why, how I prepare the dinner plates for glazing, how I glaze and fire them and finally evaluating the results.

The goal of this dinner plate glaze test is to try and find the combination of clay and glazes I like the most.

Nothing finer in pottery than a baby smooth bottom.

Thank you. I started using my rolling pin to make plates and now I am trimming flat bottoms. So fast! Even if I put a foot on them, I can make them much faster. Have not glazed them yet. I think the best part is the compression. The plates stay flat.

I love the black and the red clay, I think the red clay looks lovely with the floating blue 😊 But we all have different taste’s. Well done with the success of all your wonderful plates 💚

Awesome set of videos and thank you for generously sharing all the the data in the pdf. I loved the three greens the best. Especially on the black clay. Nice contrast. Can imagine them stacked on an open shelf. The blue was nice too, especially on the red clay as someone else mentioned. The whites were nice and I’m sure there is a large subset of people that these would appeal to because they have a certain minimalist nature to them color-wise. My daughter would be one for sure :). I and I’m sure many others really appreciate your significant efforts to help us out in our journeys. Thank you.

Great video. Glazing is the biggest challenge for me. So many options lol. I have to make more plates as some of mine broke in bisque fire. Those plate shelves are pricey, im gonna have to save up for those but they're nice.
I love your colors, they're just light enough to not overpower and take away from the food. Did you ever think speckle glaze? Or have you messed around with lagunas dragon fruit clay?

Great video! Thank you so much for sharing all the detail for us baby potters.... I'm fascinated by that black clay - all the black clays I've tried in the states are dark brown when you throw it and they stain your hands. I'd love to understand the chemistry behind having such a light clay go black. I've got to try the rolling method!

I'm really enjoying this set of videos. Forgive me if you've already said this, but what cone did you fire to? Cone 6? Cone 10? Thanks for sharing these with us!

These are absolutely wonderful! Curious about your kiln furniture for the plates. I haven't found anything like it here.. could you list where you found these? My tiny kiln means I can only fire a few plates at a time and these would be a game changer!

Beautiful, with the plate shelves you can not glaze the plate sides? Do you mind to share the recipe for the water falls and folk art? 🤗

Thanks for the pdf, very helpful. I love the darkest floating blue, second row in from my right. Also love the, I think you said waterfall, it's green? Fourth row from my right, closest to me. I'm colorblind, I see color, but not the way others see it; those two plates stand out to me. The rest are just various shades of yuck, I'm sure they are all beautiful. lol Love watching you play tetris in your kiln. One question, I've been told not to leave so much of the pot raw if it's going to be exposed to water ( in the dishwasher), because the body would unevenly absorb water and warp or break your pot... that isn't a concern? It's a myth? Take care, be well. Spring is finally here, yay

Amazing video ! I was wondering if you have ever had a plate crack after glaze firing it ? One of mine cracked after bisque firing and an other one cracked after glaze firing. I was wondering how to avoid that ?
