In today's video, we discuss the most troubling and questionable dialogue exchange in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. If the player finds themselves in Skingrad, they should visit the shop All Things Alchemical. The proprietor, Falanu Hlaalu, has some very interesting information to share when asked about the city of Skingrad! Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe!

I believe she is also the former owner of that one burned out alchemy shop near Memorial Cave.
Which is kinda funny to think about because Memorial Cave is full of Vampires. Vampires being undead, you know. It goes full circle.

So I guess we now know how the main character ended up in prison

You can't spell Necromancer without Romance.

Today I watched a 40 min video exploring why the hero is in jail at the start. The best comment by far was "We know why he's in jail. He knows the punishment for necrophilia and even knows the punishment for repeat offenses."

I guess my brain just always subconsciously replaced “necrophilia” with “necromancy” to shield my mind

People mostly think of a single possibility, which is the protagonist having commited necrophilia at one point, but this opens much more possibilities. For example, if we consider that the Hero of Kvatch has knowledge of fines and penalties to crimes that are rare to hear about, he could have studied law at some point. Hlaalu is a harder case to deny, since there are other conversations the player can hear that could confirm her participation in that vile act.

My headcannon is that our habit of looting of corpses (stripping them down) has been mistaken for something worse in the past.

My mom walked by as my brother and I played this part as kids. Normally concerned about what we were watching/playing, she just laughed hysterically and walked back into the kitchen.

You can hear an npc mention that hlaalu was spotted near the cemetery at night

It makes sense that morrowind would have harsher penalties for necrophilia, they do partake in a form of ancestor worship and often visit commune with their ancestors for guidance and support, so it would be an even more grave offence to them than in most other regions

You used to tell me that I stole your heart
And now I stole your other organs too
You used to tell me that I broke your law
And I will break a thousand more for you

.... she learned necromancy for all the wrong reasons

She wrote a fire ass song about it too. It’s called The Fine by Young Scrolls

This is why Necromancy was later frowned upon

So that's why the dovikin was trying to cross the border. Couldn't afford the fine in Cyrodil.

Necromancers aren't the only bone raisers in Tamriel

The main character CAN answer in an unsettling way. Big difference.

This is actually how I learned what necrophilia was.
