Creating a Better Hollywood Boulevard

Hollywood Boulevard has long been promoted as a thoroughfare of glamour and sophistication, but the reality of the street can be very different. Parts of Hollywood Boulevard are overcrowded, with too many people packed on crowded sidewalks with few public amenities and safety protections. Meanwhile, other stretches of Hollywood Boulevard can feel deserted and seedy, with little street life, but lots of vacant retail spaces. In response to Hollywood Boulevard's problems, a streetscape upgrade is underway to make the street safer and more inviting, especially for pedestrians and cyclists. Can the street be improved so people who come to Hollywood Boulevard actually want to stay a while instead of fleeing in disappointment?

Great video, and great project. I really hope Hollywood Boulevard gets pedestrianized and that the rest of LA follows suit with public transportation and bike infrastructure. Hollywood and Vine has a secured bike parking facility provided by metro available for $60/year but when I've used it I've barely seen any other bikes in it, which tells me that the area's not very safe to bike and that barely anyone knows about it.

They should get rid of all the street vendors, it is disgusting to see all the hot dog grease in the sidewalk. I went 2 weeks ago ( to bring some visitors) and it was even worse than last time I went.

Wider sidewalks will only invite more street vendors. They take over most of the sidewalk now and will when this project is done. Specially the taco kitchens set up all along Hollywood boulevard now.

Hugo Soto-Martinez is the absolute worst thing to happen to Hollywood. What Hollywood needs is its version of Traci Park. Someone who is actually fighting for the residents and business owners. Not someone who virtue signals, with little to no results. If the people of Hollywood want wants best, VOTE HIM OUT ASAP!
