Replace them both a forget about it. Replace one, do the job twice, because the other one is not far behind. Just a small amount of work more to do both Belts, but almost 2 times the effort to go back later and replace the second belt that will fail soon anyway. Belts are cheap, time and labor not so much

Yes, My high-school buddy Rocco Simeri had one. Myself, Dave Murray and Rocco driving stopped at an intersection smelled smoke and got out. Two minutes later Rocco's Corvair would have made Jon of Arc proud. Plus we got caught skipping school!

I was told wd-40 to test belt ... never heard of using carb cleaner

You can also use water, my wife’s car was make noise and luckily I checked and half the belt was gone yikes. Also check tension of the belt, if it’s loose it will also make noise as well as check the belt and see if it’s moving side to side if so one of the pulleys is most likely bad or is misaligned.

I’m not a mechanic but I’d personally recommend not doing this unless your planning to change your belt soon, which you should do if it’s squeaking excessively..
I’m positive this will cause a belt to dry and crack then snap..
causing much bigger problems..

My car made that noise and the solition was to just tighten the belts slightly.

My grandfather was a mechanic before he died in the eighties, And my belts were making noise so he put water on them and it calmed down, so he knew what it was.
