We travel between the capitals of Sweden and Norway, between the cities of Stockholm and Oslo, aboard an SJ Intercity train.

We start the trip exploring Stockholm Central Station, popularly known as Stockholm C. The station was inaugurated in 1871, but throughout its history it has evolved into the modern station of today, not without historical details.

After exploring the platforms and the trains that pass by, our train arrives, driven by a veteran Rc class locomotive, a classic SJ train. We depart from Stockholm Central Station, ready to explore the stunning Scandinavian scenery. As we pull away from the city, we encounter the dazzling beauty of Swedish nature in full summer splendor: endless green fields, serene lakes and charming villages glistening in the sun.

The train winds through picturesque forests and valleys, offering us an unparalleled view. The long summer days allow us to enjoy daylight throughout the journey, although rain also makes an appearance. This is good news considering that the temperature in Stockholm was around 30 degrees and our train has no air conditioning, making the heat stifling at times.

Crossing the border, a set of beautiful lakes reflecting the trees welcome us to Norway. As the sun sets, offering us a beautiful sunset, we approach the Norwegian capital and, as night falls, we are greeted by the fantastic Oslo Central Station and this vibrant Scandinavian city. With a look at its most modern area, where there is no lack of its indispensable streetcar, we say goodbye to this 'trip report' of the journey between Stockholm and Oslo in a SJ Intercity, the only direct rail transport between Stockholm and Oslo available when I made the trip during August 2022.

About the "don´t throw bottles out the window-sign". in the old days glas-bottles was of some reason thrown out of the window, the glas could start fire´s and the shattered glas could harm the wildlife. The bin for garbage wasn´t that big so bottles was to put somewhere else

Nice that you got to ride a train with the old theatre wagon!

Fun fact: That Bistro car you got used to have a cinema and those pictures with the raindeer used to be movie posters. Then the tablets came and together with the free onboard wi-fi, the onboard cinema closed down.

Informative, thanks. An audio would be good though...it would add an extra dimension too.

We who lived in Scandinavia have always been able to travel free without passport, we only need a ID-card i.e driver licence.

I've been to the Central Station in Stockholm probably 10, 000s of times - never noticed many of the details you showed here. How can I have missed those paintings? lol

The new X2000 also goes from there and is simply called X2C, some of the trains there are X2K and are made for traffic in denmark and there is also another trainset called X2U that is the X2 but has watercooled engine like the X2C

Thanks for posting. Isn’t Stockholm station concourse a delight? Wouldn’t it be great if Euston had murals depicting places served by the West Coast Main Line?

Also one thing about the SJ intercity that is pulled by a loco if you sit in a car near the loco (Rc6) you can hear the breaking very much and it's quite anoying

@ 8:00 It would be cool if you could show in future videos the menu of the restaurant/bistro car. IMHO if you spend quite some time in a train, it is nice to know what you can eat and drink there.

Good video. We liked both Oslo and Stockholm and had good trips on both the Norwegian and Swedish rail systems. Most of the trains aren't especially fast but they are clean, comfortable and punctual.

Nice video! Yeah, the Intercity trains aren't the best, and there haven't been any development nor investment for better trains and faster route between the two capitals. Hope it changes in the future!

The trains between Stockholm and Oslo - 2 Scandinavian capitals - are often cancelled. It's time the corrupt politicians were thrown out of the Swedish and Norwegian governments and a proper, hourly, reliable railway service between these two cities was established.
I suppose it's because Sweden let the Germans march right through in WW2 with no resistance, and the Norwegians are still resentful over this.

What a rubbish train. Clean but completely outdated.
