In this diy timber framing video, we have finished construction of the floor joist and angle iron at the joints on the off grid timber frame cabin homestead in the Great Smoky Mountains using both modern and traditional hand tools, and explain how we are laying down the flooring and the tools we are using, plus our subscriber giveaway for the month of December 2020. Mortise and tenon are the basic frame work on the 7 x 7 post and beam along with the 7 x 10 beams that support the floor joist. We hope you will follow us through the final stages of the cabin build, chicken house, root cellar, basecamp and future barn for the homestead.

You're doing a great job on the videos. They look professional. Keep up the good work. I love hearing the rain. Working in the rain and not getting wet is ideal.
I have to be honest and say I am a frustrated renter with the same skills you demonstrate but no place to put them to work. I say that to remind you and others to count your blessings. God bless you all.

I like the sound of the rain on the roof. Calming and now I’m ready to head to bed for the night.

This new channel is "awesome", with you taking the time to not only explain useful tools and why you use them, but you also include information about what you are building at the time of this Episode! Keep it up and know your supporters are always with you, and some of them especially me, are learning a lot....A Big Thank You.

Like your shows ! I have been a plumber for 45 years and found the American brand tools the best for my trade ( Ridgid ) but lately invested in a Milwaukee combo kit and really happy with it ! cheers till tomorrow .

Love watching builds like this and the little tips along the way. I liked that you took the time to wrap the place in plastic. A lot of times people won't take the time for such steps but how much more enjoyable it is to work now and mainly, not worry about a wet subfloor.

Good morning. I think your choice for the screws is spot on. Nails are good for lateral stress like walls and joists. For floor screws hold in place longer and tighter because of the threads and they don't have the sear to worry about. I think of tools like you do. I know people that only used Craftsman or Dewalt but I look for the best tool for the money. I figure I need at least 1 battery per tool and a charger for that battery any way so I have Dewalt screwdriver and impact drivers then Milwaukee sander, Hitachi nail guns and an assortment of other tools none that really match most from garage sales. If I break or lose a hand tool I would rather of paid a dollar instead of twenty for it.

I was wondering if y’all were going to use glue between the frame and the subfloor. Glad to see you chose to go with the glue. It truly makes a difference! As the framing dries, it will shrink which could create an airspace. Using glue, you create a bond between the mating surfaces.
Back when I used to hang Sheetrock, I always used glue behind the Sheetrock so that the homeowner wouldn’t see nail pops in the future.
Keep up the great work!
