The PHP frameworks have all failed. It's time for a rethink.

In this video, I'm going to quickly outline what a framework is and then I'm going to offer a perspective of the PHP frameworks universe, as I see it.

I don't expect everybody to agree with me but I'm sure I'm not alone in my thinking.

Oh, and I forgot to say it's time to leave the command line interface back in the 70s, where it belongs. On every metric that counts, the new framework will crush the rest - including the micros. Everything that the aficionados call 'bad', I will call 'good'. Everything that they call 'good', I will chuck in the trash can. Tell your clients that they can relax because you're using a framework that will NEVER be rewritten. No template engine. No ORM. No Agile. No Devops. No TDD. Nothing to learn. PHP is coming home. Oh hallelujah!

Really good reflection... NO ORM, NO template engines, NO frameworks. Your talk is GREAT!

I'm a Laravel/Symfony developer but I agree with some of your points, especially about the templating engines. What annoys me the most is the amount of automatic wiring up that goes on behind the scenes but then isn't properly documented, it's like they are treating developers as idiots. Another pain point is ORM's - I strongly believe these are actually an anti-pattern that should be avoided completely, this is partly because of the object impedance mismatch but also because it can be hard to control and debug the queries it generates. Simply using SQL and PDO is a far more sane approach.

very succinct explication of frameworks, you've laid it all out ....

As an obsessed Speed Coder, how you added Speed Coding at the end of the mix is something that stood out to me. This is only part of what Trongate will be about...a legacy for the future has thus been created!

Many things you said are true. I was in love with php for many years, since 2005 and up till 2009 when i stopped developing at all. When i returned back at 2014 and saw the web development community I was like "what the fuck happened here". Can't wait for Trongate to emerge. Best of luck David.

I want a framework that is stable, simple and fast ... I want TRONGATE!

I wrote the kind of framework you're talking about. It was either that or i quit programming in this language entirely because the overcomplexity, messiness, poor performance, and low productivity of using laravel/symfony/etc.

I am very disappointed in codeigniter.. it still wants to use instantiated calls for almost everything, where a simple static function call would have sufficed and cut down lines of code in many areas.. it also does very little for you.

Something new, streamlined, fast and uncomplicated. It's much welcomed.

Great video. I look forward to your framework. Any idea on the release date? Incidentally what do you think of Yii 2? Or is it finished in your opinion?

Hi David, regarding the new Trongate frame work I have a question. Does it supports multi language option? I mean based on user language selection, content of website should change to user specified language.
