Coming from PHP to JS is the best possible thing to happen to my life, I now write everything with it, if not for performance issue I'd love to use it on embedded system.

For someone who's been programming in PHP for over a decade and is now thinking about doing my next project in React, this makes me second-guess myself hard.

I fucking love this 😂
Got into coding two weeks ago and are tackling JS right now, nice to know I have 549 weeks left before I start regretting 👌

If you feel discouraged with this, don't. While Js is a flawed language, it is widely adopted. Just go build projects and you should be fine.

I remember since i was in the programming vocation high school, for server side programming or website development that i was taught about html, css, php, mysql, and js...
it was fun to know how programming works. from there i learned about desktop programming like java, and this was where i was aware about how multi threading and event handler work. that time i moved my interest to code desktop/server program until uni. learned about android programming too. before graduated from uni, i learned how to code c/c++ and use it for my final project, glad to knew Qt framework that already cover gui and event handler... until today i mostly code in c++ for job or side/personal project...

glad to know how kind of type programs created, what are inside that, is it need to use system call from os, and etc...

I have written 15 years PHP, but also written more than 20 years JavaScript. Some like PHP, some not, you have to work with it to know if you like it or not. Point 2 is what you need, you have to work in a language for years to say something about it.

I really dont get why people think js is so complicated, rust is complicated, c++ is complicated, data paterns are complicated. js is easy, and honestly kind of fun sometimes

This community is WAY too concerned with what they use to create something over what they actually create. Users don't know what JS, PHP or fucklang are, they care that you made a cool thing. If you can't make a cool thing in JS, PHP or whatever the fuck else that's a you problem.

I'm so glad no one benchmarks PHP.

Even if you work with JS for 10 years, an interviwer can make you sweat bullets by asking you, what will be the output for an arithmatic expression. Eg {} + [], [] + {}, 3 + "7", "7" + 3 try answering this expressions without using REPL.

I just wrote a playstation emulator in JavaScript and then came to the conclusion it is the only language you need as you can do anything with it. Maybe building a data cloud in JavaScript also helped.

Half a decade in, I dont regret it although maybe the old code I have seen and also written myself can be regretted. But a great language to build atleast something than hopping languages for sure!

im already 7 years into js/ts, and im regret that js async nature has embedded into me that sometimes it's hard to wrap the async/concurrency flow of other languages.

I’m dealing with JavaScript and typescript. It’s absolutely wild to think how that application worked before - the equivalent of wearing a blindfold.
