What if you could listen in on a conversation between two devils? C.S. Lewis’s "The Screwtape Letters" takes you through letters between Screwtape, a high-ranking demon in the underworld, and his inexperienced nephew, Wormwood, and their plan to deceive man into sin and ultimately hell. Michael Knowles and Seth Dillon of The Babylon Bee discuss Lewis’s satirical masterpiece on this episode.

This was required reading in my senior high school college prep English class, back in good old 1966/67. After I became a Christian in 1970 I finally 'got' it and am a huge fan of C.S. Lewis.

“Screwtape Proposes a Toast” is a brilliant critique of contemporary cultural issues. Lewis was prophetic.

Ch 8 of the book is my favorite chapter....
"Hence the prayers offered in states of dryness are those which please Him best."
"Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring, but still intending, to do our Enemy's will, looks round upon a universe from which every trace of Him seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been forsaken, and still obeys."

"You've stolen the other team's playbook." That's a great analogy. I remember telling my niece that it's like reading the diary of Voldemort, since she's such a big Harry Potter fan.

My Grandmother asked me to read this book and loaned me her copy while I was in High School. It's one of the best books I've ever read.

I was riding back from a university debate with my debate team, a van full of non-Christians in 2010. Our co-pilot was looking for a good radio station. We happened upon a reading of the screw tape letters. All conversation stopped and everyone was instantly enraptured by it. I was the only one that knew what we were listening to! It was surreal to see everyone interested in the writings of C.S. Lewis! We listened until the broadcast was over. It was a really cool moment.

C.S. Lewis ‘The Great Divorce’ is also a wonderful read.

The audiobook is amazing. I got it from the library. Andy Serkis’s voice for Screwtape is the standard for how it is to be done. If you haven’t heard, drop what you are doing and check it out.

I read this in my senior religion class at Covington Catholic High School, yes that Covington Catholic High School, and this brought back the memory... I can still here the teacher's voice imitating Screwtape. So good. I must revisit.

I just talked about the modern day version of The Screwtape Letters with my husband just yesterday.
Screwtape tells Wormwood to focus on changing definitions of: marriage, gender, a human life, love, racism. I imagine rewriting the Bible "because it was written by racist colonist" will come next.

Don't forget the followup "Screwtape Proposes a Toast." It is a lot shorter but it is even better.

I read The Screwtape Letters in grade 10. A teacher was open minded enough and allowed me to use it for a book critique. I feel it was better than Mere Christianity.

I love all of C.S. Lewis and I have read most of his books. Mere Christianity, Scewtape Letters and The Chronicles of Narnia are my favorites! Thank you! I have been rereading because I can’t read new authors. Thank God that we have a ton of great stuff to reread 😊

I always was struck by the idea of "the gluttony of delicacy"
