The Screwtape Letters: Letter #1 Explained

The devils don't want us to think, because thinking can lead us to God. In The Screwtape Letters, C. S. Lewis predicted our culture today. The demons and tempters have been so successful in recent years that I doubt they have much to do any more. It seems we are no longer interested in the Truth--we don't even think in terms of True and False. The demons would rather we use terms like Woke, Traditional, Politically correct, Liberal, Conservative, Snowflake, Radical, Centrist, Libertarian, Feminist, Nationalist, Identity politics, Populist, Inclusive Authoritarian, Racist, Progressive, Reactionary,Extremist,Secular,Fundamentalist,Anarchist,Isolationist,Humanist,Elitist, Patriotic. This is a great book of spiritual discernment.

Thank you for the wise words about how serious our daily distractions truly are!
Deception, distraction, distortion, delusion, destruction: just some of the devil's tactics to get us off track and in his grasp.

Your explanations are very revealing. They are great and I listen to podcasts and such when I’m driving. I can see the first 17 but after that, they are private??? I would very much like to have the rest if available?

I’m just starting the series, but it’s been very interesting so far. Back when I was in high school, I read the screw tape letters, but it seems I did not fully grasp the depth of knowledge at the time.

However, I noticed something ironic about this letter, as it was presented in the video. As is discussed in this video, the first letter talks about using distraction and using noise to prevent thinking and understanding. Ironically, it could be claimed that this video is doing just that. As someone who succumbs to allowing my mind to being numbed by constant noise pretty frequently, I see how this video could, in a way, do the same thing, but just discussing a different topic. That’s not to the fault of the creator of this video, but to the fault of the listener. Ironic.

I am constntly streaming content like this and I think its good but also still a bad thing that I always have SOMETHING going on, and never just nothing. I get to think when I ride my bike and when I take a shower and that's about it.
