Jamie Oliver: 'Social mobility has to be fundamentally the most precious thing Britain has'

Jamie Oliver is one of Britain's most-loved chefs. He became famous as a chef on TV and since then has become a best-selling author, started a lot of restaurants and become a campaigner.

He is perhaps best known for trying to revolutionise school food. His business group has just achieved 'B Corp' Sustainability accreditation in recognition of their social and environmental performance.

Jamie talks to Krishnan about why he has a passion for changing not only the food world but for reaching across social barriers in society, how his dyslexia has affected him during his career and his thoughts of the government's obesity strategy.

'If you're born poor and work really hard one day you *might* have a decent quality of life'
Yeah that sounds great, really precious

I'm sorry, what? Social mobility. Good luck with that when you're paying robber baron landlords half your wages for a box room.

The Uk has one of the worst social mobility rates in the western world. Our entire economic and social system is entrenched in class. Just coz Jamie made it he thinks it’s just as simple for everyone else? Oh how out of touch he has become (and has been for a while)

He seems to have lost the Mockney accent now, its been discarded like a turkey twizzler.

I think Jaimie is articulating, through his sincere and painful eulogies, is that the world is really messed up... And navigating the world that we live in now is incredibly difficult. Nuff respect for Jaimie, I really love him.

He is so right. Eating out should be a luxury, not the only choice. Learn to cook healthily and cheaply at home, spend time with the family cooking today. And leave the eating out for those extra special occasions.

I've made it so why can"t anyone else attitude. Mark Dice has a t-shirt on the front it's got written "Celebrities Know Whats Best"

The stupid title doesn’t reflect the content. It’s more about his campaigning, confidence, dealing with failures and views on class.

Seriously. It’s precious to everyone at any where on earth. But most of us give it up for the elderly. Someone’s granny and grandpa.

Isn't Social Mobility simply getting on a Bus?

As long as endless mass immigration drives up property prices and drives down wages, how much upward mobility can the average working class Brit expect?

Too many Tories.

The last leader in the running who would do something about social mobility had "communist" and "anti-semite" screamed at him every 5 seconds in the MSM.

Wow. The negativity towards Jamie is surprising. (I'm not British) I think Jamie is a hero. He's trying to improve nutrition, health and life.

If you vote for a Bullingdon boy as your Prime Minister, you can forget about social mobility.

Ah yes social mobility. Positive future for our young kids... How quaint.

Yes, you too can lose everything you worked hard for in today's Britain.
