Come with us as we explore our beautiful Italian city, Vicenza! Although it's currently mid-winter and not the most beautiful time of the year, we're happily exploring the historic center of our city (or town for those who consider Vicenza 'small') and learning more about the architecture, food, and culture in the region.

Thank you for all the comments over the past few weeks sharing many insights and facts about this region. There is much to explore and learn and today's video is step one of that for us! We hope you all have an incredible Sunday and start to your week :).

if you want to eat a homemade risotto you have to wait at least 20 minutes, if you are in a hurry go to a fast food restaurant. It is not a question of "dolce vita" the time you wait at the restaurant, it is the technical time that is needed to eat well and made at the moment. As for pickpockets, it is a phenomenon present in large cities where there is a lot of tourism, the Italian province is very safe.

In Italy people are used to chat a lot with each other during meals so this is one of the reason why diners last longer, but the food is worth it

The service is probably slower cos people expect to take their time to eat rather than gulping it down. Eating is a social activity, not a chore to be rushed. So if the restaurant is too quick you might get offended and feel like you're being rushed out the door.

the food takes longer because its not fast food, Italians make everything fresh from scratch, more high quality ingredients that takes longer. That's why it tastes so amazing and its indeed healthy for you!

I spent part of my study abroad program for art history staying in Vicenza. It was one of my favourite towns. Loved it!

You may not imagine you are in the city of the creator of Romeo and Juliet.
His name was Luigi Da Porto and his house is in Contrà Porti, with a sign on the wall.
He wrote "Romeo e Giulietta" for a girl from Udine, and then the tale was translated in French and then in English, until it got into the hands of Shakespeare.
Almost nobody knows this story, but it's all in encyclopedias.

We've been living in Italy since 2000, and the food here is absolutely incredible. My wife is Italian, and family life is vibrant, full of warmth and energy.

It's great you chose a smaller city in Italy. They are usually safer( no pickpocket), cleaner and cheaper. You also chose a strategic point and from there you can reach easily many interesting city! Hope you will come also in nord-west someday, much less touristic but still beautiful. I saw somone said south Italy it's much more welcoming. I think that's not true, of course they are more extrovert, but not everyone love it 😉

For an Italian, going to a restaurant must be a convivial moment, the pleasure of sitting at the table and sharing an hour or two with friends while enjoying good food and wine is unparalleled and the service must not be too fast, slow but not too slow either 🤣

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Sunday lunch at the restaurant in Italy from 1.30 to 3.00 is pretty normal. Enjoy the food and the conversation, take your time to plan your evening meal and most of all: here in Italy children do not stay home while parents go out for lunch or dinner.

Whereever the locals carry their backpacks at their chest it's a good idea to follow suit and avoid pickpocketing. I saw this at Barcelona, Spain/Catalonia, very often.
I read horror stories about pickpockets and beggars on Italian trains, but actually I found these trains very safe, comfortable and way more punctual than in Germany.

In winter Vicenza has a lot of mist, so you may appreciate coming up to Asiago, about one hour away. The beatiful town is on a plateau at a level of 1000 meters above sea level. There are direct buses from Vicenza, and should you come, you will find friendly people, and I suggest you try Caffè Roma that is in the town center and the person running it, is an English speaker, as also one of the girls that serves. I suggest you make a day of it, since there are many good restaurants as well, and take the bus back to Vicenza when you are ready.

Hey guys! I know you are navigated travellers, but I bet you will feel weird for the time to come, I really wish you and your family to enjoy your time here and be well.
The season is obviously not the best right now, but in general I believe Vicenza is a good, small liveable city which is quite close to many interesting destinations: Treviso, Padova, Verona, Venica, Lake Garda (Gardaland amusement park for the kids), the Alps...
I suggest you also to explore, further South, Mantova, Parma, Ferrara, Bologna, Ravenna... the strenght of Northern Italy is without a doubt the possibility to travel veru easily and quite quickly from a nice medium sized city to the other, all worth it in different ways.
I believe this is definitely an unique feature (there are historical reasons) of the region.
Enjoy!

I live at about 15 kilometers from Vicenza, you have to go to "Monte Berico" it's a church on the top of an hill, there's a balcony where you can see whole Vicenza, it's a very suggestive place you can't go wrong with it 😊

What a beautiful town! Being in Northern Italy, Willa might get the chance to visit her friends in Germany as well :) Or the other way round, Italy is a favourite holiday destination, the country just has it all.

Looks like ypu had an amazing Domenica! A beautiful walk through the streets with mercati along the way, a fun ice-skating stop with your daughter, and most importantly, amazing food. You'll enjoy restaurants more when your girls are older. 😊 You'll be amazed at how much more lively things (scenery and people) will get in the spring and summer. Enjoy!😘
