Eliud Kipchoge: We go for an ‘easy run’ with the world's best marathon runner

It is not often that you are invited to go on a training run with the marathon world record holder and a couple dozen of his team-mates who can run for days at a pace faster than the average person can sprint, writes Ben Bloom.

Fortunately this is only their recovery run - a daily 10km amble to stretch the legs before sundown at a pace I am assured is “easy”.

It takes only a few hundred metres to realise that descriptions of the route as “flat” are wholy wide of the mark. The out-and-back circuit of 5km in one direction and 5km in reverse consists of merciless rises and falls more appropriate on a rollercoaster.
