It just got easier for Medicare Supplement beneficiaries in Illinois to save money. This video helps with Medicare explained for Medicare Supplement plans. A new law in Illinois for Medicare health insurance goes into effect January 1,.2022 . It will allow current holders of Medicare Supplements, also called a Medigap, to shop for a new plan and new company with a lower rate around their birthday guaranteed issue.

Medicare Supplement plans California have been doing this for years and many states are starting to take notice. This law allows a Medicare beneficiary to easily shop for the best medigap plan or best Medicare Supplement plan rate available to them.

In most states a beneficiary that has a Medicare Supplement plan must always go through underwriting if they wish to change their policy outside of their initial Medicare open enrollment.

For example, if you have a Medicare Supplement Plan G, you can switch to another Medicare Plan G around your birthday without underwriting. This Medicare Supplement law allows the beneficiary to go from like to like benefits or like to less benefits. This means, if you have something like a Medicare Supplement Plan F or a Medicare Supplement Plan G and would like to move to a better cost plan like Medicare Plan N, you can do so around your birthday without any underwriting.

This law really helps seniors to find their best Medigap plans and best Medicare Supplement.

Here's the GOTCHA ... cannot switch insurance companies.... QUOTE you have 45 days from your birthday to change to another Medigap plan with the same level or a lower level of benefits. This ONLY applies to plans with your CURRENT insurance carrier. To qualify for this birthday rule, you must be 65 to 75 years old. This birthday rule took effect on January 1, 2022.
QUESTION do you find that the insurance companies are charging existing customers MORE than what they are currently selling the same plan for? For example, if paying $2, 000 year would a company be selling it for $1800 to new customers? Is that the issue actually, that companies do not lower existing customers rates to the new going rate and instead possibly charge them even more? (Understood person's age is a factor; but say whether new or existing customer, both age 69 for example)
