I would imagine if you're already zip tied, you're in trouble. As someone who was nearly strangled to death at 17 yrs old, and only survived because the man with him grew a conscience, my advice is to do everything you can before you get captured. Once they have you tied up, and take you to another location, you're as good as dead. Fight like your life depends on it beforehand - because it does. Do everything in your power to escape before, not after, the abduction.

Come on people give the man some credit
Gof forbid u never have to use this technique
But in case you do
You will remember him and thank him for life

Any knowledge is better than no knowledge ❤

This is information you may think you never need, and hopefully you never do. But if you do need it you will be very thankful.

You have given us the way to evade a possible kidnapping and that is something to be proud of! They say in life that if you can help just one person in some way or form, you've done a great deed. Jason, you have undoubtedly given someone who has been kidnapped the way to freedom. Bravo!

I was abducted when I was a child. Got away.
I was attacked when I was a teenager…. A police officer had been to our school and showed us to carry our keys between our fingers and use them as a weapon.
I used my keys and got away.
Thank you for teaching me this….it just may save my life.❤

In spite of some _snarky_ comments here, I appreciate the possibility of "hope" you are instilling. *Fear* and lack of knowledge can be more debilitating no matter what the situation one finds oneself in. Keep the information coming Jason - I'm all for *survival* 💪

Hopefully, I'm NEVER in a situation where I have to exercise this knowledge but still very good to know.

Full respect to this guy. He managed to take a video that could have been a vine and dragged it to almost 5 minutes

I've got a little girl on the way and my parental instincts immediately led me to your videos. My wife's dad used to teach his girls these types of thing (and then put them in weird situations) just to help prep them for emergencies. Live your videos, keep posting!

One day I got home from work and as I opened the front door to get into my apartment, a hand from the inside of my apartment grabbed my wrist and tried to pull me in. I fought back, dropped my body to the ground and wrapped my legs on the rails just outside the door, but being petite and thin I was not able to fight back a strong man dragging me inside my own apartment.
Once inside he shut the door and he grabbed a knife as i went into the only room in my one bedroom apartment. I remembered somebody saying if you run you become a prey, so I did not run, besides, there was nowhere to run except into the closet. I also remembered a psychologist woman who started a conversation with her abductor and avoided being killed (he ended up being a serial killer) so I started talking to him.
I saw him very distressed and I don't remember exactly what I said but I started talking softly to him and asked him to give me a hug and I started walking slowly towards him and I hugged him and then I said you really scared me, I need some water, can you please get me some water from the kitchen?, he agreed and as he headed to the kitchen, which was towards the front door, I went to the phone and discovered he had disconnected it, I yelled "with ice please" I plugged the phone in and called the police, all I did was whisper very softly, "police please" "police please" and I disconnected it back.
He came back with the water and just a couple of minutes later there was a knock at the door and I told him let me answer the door so nobody can suspect anything, as soon as I opened the door and saw the police I ran outside, and let the police deal with him. Needless to say, he was arrested. I hope this can help somebody.
But running is a good option, and you won't become a prey. Run please, get away as soon as you can, don't let them handcuff you or get into a car, RUN, this usually confuses the aggressor and sometimes scares them because they lose control.
By the way, as I was holding to the rails and he was trying to pull me in, I was yelling at the top of my lungs in a busy apartment complex at 5:30 pm and people heard me and saw me but nobody came to my rescue. Praise be to God I'm alive.

The key to this technique is that the weakest component of the zip tie is the little catch tab. That is why the joint has to be in the center, so that the band puts full lateral force on that tab. He got through five minutes without mentioning that.

That’s amazing! I just tried it with my students and the first two were not able to break the tie (and at this point I was a bit sceptical) but the third student really put some oomph into it and the lock of the zip tie shattered just like you said it would!! Great stuff!

The easiest way to escape from zip ties is to run away while your assailant is still trying to get them out of the packet.

Most zip tie locks have locking heads which are easily accessibly by a fingernail. If your hands are bound behind you or there are other reasons you can't do this maneuver, you can reach the locking head with your index finger nail. Pull gently as you disengage the head from the teeth with your nail until you can slip your hands out.

Good knowledge to have, this year with my constantly evolving edc, i added a hand cuff key and a razor blade duct taped to the inside of my belt. To cover multiple restraints .
