Super Nintendo Online anyone? How about Sega Genesis Online? Well, it existed. Let’s take a look at the Xband modem for the 16 bit era console.

Did you have one of these? Weee you one of the 15000 folks who actually subscribed to the service?

You could actually play Mario Kart and Mortal Kombat online with this.

Yep, I had the xband on Snes. Learned pretty quickly that though i might be the neighborhood gaming champ, there were others out there far better than me. 😅

I had Xband for Genesis. It was glorious. My friends who lived in my local phone area could be played against all day for no big additional costs.

But, if you connected to a gamer who was a long distance call away.. you called them long distance and it could add up soooo fast. My dad played a guy on the other side of the country the night he got it and the next month mom freaked out why there was like hundreds worth of long distance calls to people we didn't know.

I had never gotten the xband, we instead got sega channel until it was discontinued. We had to return it to the cable company, but id love to be able to get my hands on one to try to mod it to working again...

I remember seeing those sometimes at the rental store eventually. Was around the same time we slowly began using the internet mainstream in the west, and the rest of the world followed suit...EXCEPT...Back in 1990Sega apparently began its own net based service for the Sega Genesis in japan, called the Sega Meganet. Proving once again how ahead of the times and innovative the Genesis was above all other 16 bit consoles. Hot take? Or a chill fact? ^<^

The original Nintendo Entertainment System already had a dialup modem back in the late 80s to early 90s. Why aren't you talking about that one? No on ever does! Do I have to be the first one to make a video about it?

Woot woot! Mine didn't cost that much because my brother worked at BlockBuster ❤ but it was badass 😎 and I was the coolest kid because we had Atari and about all of the games for each console 😂 paid having a big brother working in the best store ever!
