Ah yes, Super Smash Bros. ... what a series of games with a whole lot of references, I sure do hope that there won't be a random reference that really isn't a reference... hahahahaha. Ha.

It is not a reference. It is not a Gordo. Just a funny little spike ball.

Finally, I can be at peace with the spike balls of the world

The spike ball is a reference to the fact that it would hurt a lot to have a spiked ball dropped on you

Me : * intensely watching Kirby get mushed by a hydrolic press in the back *

Gordo Ball (called Gold Spike[1] in Kirby Air Ride) is an item based on Gordo which appears in Kirby Air Ride and the Kirby Fighters games which creates a large stationary spike hazard wherever it is thrown for a short while. In its incarnations as Gordo Ball, it resembles a Gordo without spikes initially, but when thrown, it becomes larger and grows its characteristic spikes

Saying it can't be a reference to any non nintendo franchise doesn't hold since the motion sensor bomb that's been in the game from smash 64 is a reference to goldeneye 64.

Kirby sometimes avoids spikes like those in Kirby’s super star, that’s where it originated

It's a reference to the commonly used spike obstacle in the og Kirby games. It looks pretty close and it's iconic for those who played it, I thought.

Hello! I was that one guy that said it was from the enemy Spike from Super Mario Bros, and thanks for including me in your first explanation video! (Keep searching! You might find it!)

The boss Lololo and Lalala use the exact same spike ball as an attack in Kirby super star.

It is such an easy answer. Those weird looking dudes from mario. They spit out spike balls and throw them at mario. They reappear in mario 3D world but this time throwing spike bars.

I always thought it was a reference to the ptooie spike ball from Super Mario 3 (While the official art work of the ptooie spikeball is yellow, in the game, the spike ball is black. Not gray like Spike’s spike ball.)

That spike looks like the thing that the spike enemy from Mario throws

It’s the spike ball that those green turtles with blue hair from Mario throw at Mario

It's probably a reference to the Meta-Knights, one of them has a mace with a ball that looks pretty close to it

It’s a spike ball mace. Done. So simple.

What if the spiked ball is a reference to a real life spiked ball? Have you thought about that! (Pretend i put a big brian emoji, i couldn’t find one)

Personally, I believe that it might be a reference to the Kirby enemy "Masher" who wields a spike ball on a chain that looks similar to this transformation
It's not that big in the games but the masher enemy is a pretty big deal in the Kirby anime, as it is known as the strongest demon beast, and even returns later as Masher 2.0
Idk for sure though, just thought that maybe it was a reference to the anime :)
