Red Dead Redemption 2 - 5 Changes You NEED To Make to Your Game Settings for a Smoother Experience

These settings will hopefully make your game WAY Smoother plus it will get rid of the button mashing to run.

Also in controls change Horse Control to “horse relative”
Basically now when you press L2 to interact with someone your horse won’t change direction.
So the way it works is by default when you turn the camera and are still holding forward on the left stick then your horse will fallow the camera. Changing it to “horse relative” decouples the camera from having any control over your horse. So you’re free to look wherever you like without having to compensate with the left stick.

I keep accidentally shooting people instead of talking to them or sprinting on my horse because of Spider-Man lol

why i don't use first person for this game is because you miss all the glorious animations and effort they put into this game you cannot see your beard you cannot see your custom guns holstered you cannot see his cool weapon flip when holstering a sidearm, you cannot see all the mud that covers you, you cannot see the blood that soaks on your clothes when carrying a carcass, you cannot see arthur' s sometimes hilarious reactions to things, there is just so much to admire in this game in third person that i feel first person totally ruins it. Although i will say it is helpful for looting in tight congested places. It definitely is really fun for short bursts though but eventually i always want to go back to see everything the game has to offer that gets completely cut off from view when stuck in first. My opinion though.

The aim acceleration and sensitivity tips are really useful! I tried it, and the game definitely feels more responsive now. Dunno why i didn't change it earlier, can't believe i dealt with it for so long.

After I adjusted these, the FPS mode has become my favorite way to play Red Dead 2. Let me explain... the way the settings are now are clunky and jarring. You need to set the control scheme to FPS and go into the camera and turn the Auto Leveling off. This allows you to control the character the same way you would in a Battlefield game. There is no more clunkiness and it brings up the enemies close to where you can see the gruesome effects of your shots. It also allows you to see what you're aiming at because the 3rd Person mode has the camera so far back that it's hard to see your target. Plus, while you're aiming in FPS mode, mash down on your D Pad and you will aim DIRECTLY DOWN YOUR SIGHTS. This is BY FAR the most fun way to play and shoot in Red Dead. YOU HAVE TO EXPERIENCE IT to see what I'm talking about. You can purchase different and unique gun sights at the Gunsmith and aiming down your sights is the only way to enjoy your new sight. Plus, it's realistic and much more fun! (I have it set up where it switches to 3rd person mode when I get on my horse because this is the where that mode fits and works best. When I get off my horse, it automatically switches back to First Person)"

Wow thanks for the tip with the camera follow level. It was really annoying when you were riding and saw something interesting but the camera immediately got back

Quick tip!!! Strategy guide recommends the "sharpshooter technique" for headshots. When you aim and lock on to someone, as soon as the reticle is about to shrink, you flick the right stick up sloftly and press RT right after to get headshot kills. It takes practice and its with default aim controlls, but it feels so much better mastering the technique. Hope this helps!

I wish the field of view was bigger for 1st person. It’s
like I’m looking through a straw even when you max it out.

Also, turn down “tap to hold delay” all the way down so there’s no input lag. This works for me at least, because before I turned it all the way down, I suffered input delay when pressing the L3 to run.

Fast forward to 2022 and I’m starting the game over today after work. Saving this video and will be using all these. Nice guide and thank you for the help sir. For this new Playthru I’m starting I’m gonna take my sweet time explore the map and do everything I can possibly do before progressing in the story

Keep the look sensitivity same as aim sensitivity (for muscle memory) at about 80%, deadzone 0, acceleration about 80% and turning to horse relative instead of camera relative.did these in first 5 mins of starting the game itself.enjoy

The most annoying thing is losing your loadout when getting off your horse with John you can be aiming your rifle while horse back and as soon as you step foot off of your horse you lose the rifle.

Probably no one's going to see this but I just want to say when you set the sprint button to toggle you don't automatically run at full speed. When you press it yes you're at a good jogging speed but to go as fast as possible you need to mash the button.

This actually gives you a better targeting, you can get a lot of headshot with these settings for minimal effort, its help with the headshot challenges as well
