Getting your music ready to play on CDJs from Rekordbox can feel like running uphill. File formats, Export Mode, Sync Manager and dangerous common mistakes can trip even pro DJs up. In this video I show you how to export from Rekordbox to USB flawlessly so that you can walk up to the decks with confidence, deal with issues and deliver an amazing set.

1. Buy a Mac instead
2. If not, plug in your drive, go to explorer, right click on the drive and choose ‘format’
3. give it a name and choose ‘FAT32’ as the file format

Great video! I wanted to share some information that I struggled to find, in hopes that it helps someone else too.

I had a 128 GB USB drive that I used with my RX3 without any problems, until I tried to plug it into a CDJ at a venue and it couldn't read it. It turns out that when formatting in Windows using FAT32, there is a 32 GB limit imposed on the drive (hence the name). Today, the recommended option is to use exFAT, which uses the same file system and is compatible but does not restrict the drive's capacity when writing information. However, older CDJs and RX2s use FAT32 and only read drives up to 32 GB.

Long story short: When using Rekordbox on Windows, stick to USB drives up to 32 GB!

This issue does not occur on Mac.

Another reason I used to get missing tracks was because the file path name was too long (dragging Bandcamp downloads into iTunes was the main culprit). I resolved this by importing them into iTunes instead, then converting the file type (AIFF to AIFF) to create the track in iTunes.

I literally live for your sense of humor.!! Thank you for the tutorials! Question… how would you go about your library if you don’t want to save your music in your computer? I like to keep my files on hard drives and USB to not mess with my computer’s storage. And I feel like I’m struggling. I also would love to hear if you have any tips to copying your USB content. Is there a good way to do that? thank you!!!!

Hey till now I just always did it manually and even while still on performance mode. And it still safed all my Hot Cues, Memory Cues Beat grids and everything else on the CDJs? I played on the nexus2000 and the CDJ3000 maybe because they are not the oldest?

Th aka for your video I bought the RX3 standalone system a few years ago and just getting round to using it without a laptop… my question is… I have a folder with 200 mashups in, now I download new ones say 20. Once I add them to the folder in collection I have to export them to the usb like the start but would my 20 newly added songs be there as when you export to usb you have to check the box you want to export.
