Archaeologists revealed the "Mummy of Cajamarquilla" in Lima on Tuesday. It was discovered at a dig site 15 miles east of Lima, the capital of Peru.

Discovering a mummy is always a moment to behold, but the one unearthed by archaeologists working on a site in the outskirts of Lima came with a surprise - it was bound by rope suggesting perhaps a grisly end.

The remains are thought to be of a man aged 18-22 at the time of his death, with his hands covering his face.

Archeologist Pieter Van Dalen Luna, who is in charge of the Cajamarquilla project, called the find "peculiar and unique".

"The mummy would have been buried sometime between 800 and 1200 AD," he said - meaning it would be at least 800 years old.
