What a heart wrenching relationship she must have had with her father. I could not imagine loving the man who killed my mother.

It's so moving and telling that Elizabeth always kept a picture of her mother near her in a locket. I've always found it strange when people try to over-analyse and come up with conspiracy theories as to why Elisabeth never married and had children. The reason most likely was because she came from a dysfunctional corrupt family and she did not want to repeat history ... quite literally. After all monarchy and marriage did not mix well with the Tudors. Also, not having heirs may possibly have been revenge on her father as there was never another Tudor king ... it was a woman that ended the dynasty ... one of the most powerful women in history.

It is clear to me that she did not marry a man because she was traumatized by her horrible father killing off her mother and the way he discarded women. He’s pretty gross. I find it interesting that the Church of England started because the Catholic Church or Pope at the time would not annul his first marriage so he could marry her mother Anne. I can’t imagine how horrible those times. I got to say - I don’t blame her for not wanting to marry. Not a mystery to me.

Elisabeth was very fond of Anne of Cleaves who protected and cared for both Elisabeth and her sister when they were children. Anne of Cleaves became a 'good friend' to the king after their divorce and both sisters and their father spent many Christmases with Anne and her court. Elizabeth erected memorials to Anne when she became Queen.

2:55 Elizabeth never married because she knew that she would have to give up most of her power.
Back then, the wife had to obey the husband regardless of her power or status.
