Hi, D2 player here imma try to break it down because there is major difference. The first guy that made the layup, hung the ball after the cross and while doing so he was able to stagger his feet causing the pause (which is a step) before the second between the legs into the layup, doing this allows u to read how the defense is going to play you so if they push up or commit, u can blow by for a layup and if they sag off, you can do a pull up jumper. The guy he’s critiquing dribbles and then hops or in this case skips into his between the legs cross which is easier to defend because its easy to know you about to drive.

Watch in the NBA where a high ball screen above the perimeter is being set and if they push up on you to avoid being screened then u would do what the guy who is being critiqued would do. But if you are in iso situations or anything else you want to do what the other guy did because it allows u to read how the defender wants to play you.

The second is a little harder to guard…because you’re stepping then taking off. The first one the guy goes straight into attacking the basket …more telegraphed

I love how he stayed on the fundamentals with finishing your shot/ layup

I like the hang dribble in this video. It gives me time to steal it. If the dribble is small, compact and precise, it's hard to steal. But this one on the video, this is a good defender's dream to steal a ball.

They're talking about the tween move that he takes off with, not so much the hang dribble before that. The good one did the tween by going from slow to fast with a step forward. The wrong one just basically jumped into a between the legs where he landed on both feet at the same time and changed direction like that.

The first one is more in control. He's floating with the ball so he can drive or shoot when he thinks it's appropriate.

The second one's just doing the move and exploding to the rim with no hesitation and unpredictability.

You can't read a defender and react that way, just hope he doesn't lock you up.

To be fair I don’t see a change in steps, I see a difference in movement 😭

I'm assuming the "skip" is both feet off the ground in a movement, compared to the "step" which keeps one foot in contact.

For some reason with this video I'm not seeing the difference

first bro took a whole trip for that lay up

So you're saying that it's better to step than skip, because you're in more control in what you want to do 🤔

The guy hes complaining about Hopped into his move. Its so subtle but im guessing hes trying to teach them to not be readable
