It could be a good idea. However, make sure not to block the flow of air.
If you use air purifier with no air flowing at all, it will last much longer. The purpose of using an air purifier is to allow as much air as possible to smoothly pass through the filter to remove dust.

I just vacuum the dust off the outside of the filter every few weeks.

this is not stupid. if you compare air purifiers you will notice that some more elaborate systems use multiple stages of filtration in order for the hepa filter not to be clogged by larger particles. If there is still some air moving through the system your probably fine!

Yes, a very nice way to extend the life of your filter but it's also decreasing the lifespan of your actual air purifier xD don't do this

Sve bi bilo super da je senzor iza ovih filtera, ovako senzor i dalje detektuje zagadjenje, izdaje komandu brzine ventilatora, filter se manje prlja ali čip na njemu to ne zna i onda ti na čist filter prijavljuje da je zasićen. Drugim rečima istrošenost filtera se zasniva na protoku vazduha a ne na osnovu stvarne zaprljanosti odnosno pada pritiska usled zasićenja istog

Автор смешон. Достаточно просто обернуть фильтр женскими тонкими колготками и все. Через месяц поменял их и так же пользуешься.
