Zuckerberg Apologizes to Families over Children’s Deaths

How do we protect children online? Are we failing them right now? Who is responsible? Let's paint the picture. You had five big tech CEOs appearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. They're having a hearing about online child safety. You had Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, TikTok CEO Shou Chew, X’s Linda Yaccarino, Snap's Evan Spiegel, and Discord's Jason Citron. And what was wild was even though they were the two that were there voluntarily, Zuckerberg and Chew took the most heat. Both of them getting absolutely grilled regarding the number of a*use incidents on their platform. At one point, you even had Senator Josh Hawley pushing and prodding Zuckerberg into a public statement to those parents right there. “Would you like to apologize for what you've done to these good people?” “I'm sorry. Everything for that you have all gone through. It’s terrible, no one should have to go through the things that your families have suffered. And this is why we invest so much and are going to continue doing industry-leading efforts to make sure that no one has to go through the types of things that your families have had to suffer.”

When politicians start saying "Think of the Children!" Expect moves to remove our rights.

I hate how all the parents try to blame it on the companys. You need to take responsibility for what your kid does on the site.

Parents would literally rather go to war than talk to their kids.

These hearings are a joke. If only people with knowledge of the Internet and social media would question these people.

Josh Hawley would never ask the CEO of a gun company if they had compensated the family of the children harmed by their products. Let alone to hold them to the fire over their answer.

It’s the parents job to raise their children not big tech.

Facebook could do more, but this generation of laissez-faire parents need to step up.

Please. Monitor your kids. Don't just give them devices and leave them to their own doing.

Parents are at fault 1000%. Keep your kids off frickin social media until they're mentally aware enough to handle it, people on the internet are horrible. Seriously these kids wouldnt be able to handle the early 2000s internet.

All I got to say is… do NOT put it in the hands of the government. As we've seen for 60 years now the government can NOT fill the crucial role that invested dedicated and informed MOTHERS AND FATHERS need to be in their kids lives!!

The parents are to blame. Computers aren't babysitters, if you can't raise your kids properly, do the rest of us a favor and keep your legs closed.

It’s the parents.
Kids need to learn.
Teaching them to not listen to online toxicity is part of that.

I've always been under the impression parents should be the ones responsible for what their children do online.

It's remarkable to me Josh Hawley would ask Zuck for an apology but when it comes to keeping schools safe from gun violence? Crickets.

As a teacher I hate the new generation of parents who treat schools like day care centers because they don’t know or have failed to be parents. Now they’re blaming it on big tech.
