What was to come was the final showdown between the two main players of the dance of the dragons and bring the war into its final phase. The House of the dragon was crumbling and the events that was about to follow would only cause more damage to both sides of the war.

The Dance Of The Dragons will be the focus of the plot of the new HBO spin-off House Of The Dragon coming in 2022. if you think about it, Jacaerys "Jace" Velaryon is the MVP of the Dance of the Dragon. his diplomatic mission resulted in securing the support of the north. more importantly, the blood pact that he made with Cregan Stark proves the most valuable because even after he and his mother Rhaenyra died, the Lord of Winterfell honored that vow with Jace and went on to win the war for the black installing Rhaenyra's son with Daemon in the iron throne.

Viserys should've married off Daemon and Rhaenyra after he names Rhaenyra his heir. Marrying Alicent hightower was a mistake. If you think about it, the Prince that was promised came from the line of blood from Daemon and Rhaenyra's and not that of Viserys and Alicent. Man i couldn't help myself and googled what happens to her earlier today, didn't expect it at all. I should've know she wouldn't have a good ending, this is GRRM after all.

- The entire Dance of Dragons and potentially the fall of House Targaryen is largely due to Viserys being a weak king, a good and honourable king but weak decision making.

Dance of the dragons is a straight up tragedy, Both Ageon and Rhaenyra died, and they saw they're wife's/husbands, mothers and children perish, And they started the downfall of the Targaryen family, what's the line, they would never be as powerful or prospers again! killing Aryes and Rheagar was only killing a family that was a pale shadow of their greatness,

Rules that Rhaenyra really should have known or thought of:
-1) don't let the celtigars be in charge of coin during a war, they are a greedy house that has always been trying to claim taxes from nearby settlements even though they are not under their rule.
2) if you want to keep the city, don't tax your smallfolk to oblivion.
3) dragons are extremely important to your houses power and your legitimacy, if you let them die then you're finished, so if you hear of a mass of people heading to the dragonpit to kill them send every last man there.
4) don't let your hostages die, Heleana is your half sister and kinslaying is a big taboo, they already suspect you approved or ordered the death of her eldest son, and you did order Maelor hunted down and it's believed you smiled at the sight of his corpse, letting a much loved queen and a valuable hostage die is ruin for your cause.
5) Don't fuck a man who looks nothing like your so called husband, and then try and pass off three regular person looking kids as velaryons.
6) Don't order the heads of the two dragonriders who are loyal to you and who stayed by your side faithfully, and then imprison your only remaining big ally.
7) instead of sending your kids to Essos where they could easily come into harm, be stolen, captured, enslaved, killed, or taken as a hostage( which the rogarres did), why not send them to Winterfell where you have a loyal ally, untouchable by the greens, you can stop by the vale another ally on the way, and guest right is sacred.
8) with the Vale, don't just let your cousin do nothing, cause the arryns love nothing more then sitting in the eyrie ignoring everything and everyone, rejecting giving aid to family, Ronnel Arryn's mother, Jeyne Arryn, Lysa Arryn, only give Rhaena if she sends the knights of the vale.

Like it or not, Aegon II had much more sense than Joffrey. He was a strategist and knew how to use his enemies. Aegon II in the books is represented way nicer than in the show
