Guitar Tutor Critiques Band Maid, First Time Hearing the song Onset Live with Reaction/Analysis. So I've learned they are not Babymetal or a cover band and that this is an instrumental song... at least a tiny bit more informed than before! 🤣 As usual on top of the analysis we breakdown some of the ideas and concepts going on here!

First time listening to this song, wow filled with great riffs and ideas! As well as reacting from a professional musician and guitarists point of view, we'll breakdown the epic guitar parts; including Miku's groovy rhythm with Kanami's dealy lead as well as her epic tapping solo; and find out why they sounds so cool together! Some serious musicians here in from Band-Maid not just a visual kei gimmick as I had previously foolishly assumed.

Hopefully something new or educational in here for you guys; I've got a whole host of songs to listen to, but it'd be still be great to know who else should I check out? Let me know!

Pro musician and guitar tutor reacts to the amazing bandmaid; Kanami Tono lessons, music theory from guitarist and bass player & teacher. While this is my first time hearing band maid reaction, I also analyze the song's concepts and techniques. Teaching some of the compositional tricks alongside how a guitarist reacts to this all female Japanese rock band!

Sir, I take off my hat. This is one of the most in-depth analysis I've ever heard on this song. I have listened to it hundreds of times and today I have learned new things. Thanks for all this amount of information.
You are right. In this band the result is much greater than the sum of its parts. Their sense of purpose is something very notorious, they are musicians humble enough not to try to stand out if it is not for the benefit of the song, and at the same time they are very tenacious workers with an almost fierce determination to conquer the world. For me they are an ethical inspiration.
They play ALL kinds of music rock; pop, soft, hard, metal, funk, prog or jazz (sometimes in the same song). Their last album, Unseen World has been released in January and its a monument of songwriting.

If B-M were one entity they'd be a banana eating, whiskey drinking small pigeon who moonlights as an assassin & would look down at your shredded body with a icy stare.

I dont care which song next, everything is awesome from Band-Maid. Very gifted band, with a lot of heart, soul, talent and A LOT of work. Nice to see how it works on a guitar, even though i dont play a guitar, still i am always open to learn something, especially about Band-Maid! Greetings from Germany

It might seem like common sense that no one will want to watch an hour long video of someone breaking down a single song. Of course when BAND-MAID is concerned, common sense does not apply. What I'm trying to say is you can make those videos as long as you want. One vote for Daydreaming.

Damn, lots of info here. Never too old to learn. Thanks for all this teaching and enlightenment! And for loving Band-Maid, of course. Ritchie Blackmore is my all-time favorite from the 60s-90s. I can't play guitar but Kanami blows my mind also. I think Deep Purple left some DNA there when they played in Japan in 1972. That live album is awesome. Thanks again for all this content!

Nice analysis! If you want some old school 70's, 80's rock from BAND-MAID, try Manners or The Dragon Cries or Chemical Reaction.

BAND-MAID is the one that i don't want to get a divorce.

Thank you! Please do BLOOMING or YOLO (no live versions officially uploaded to YouTube). 2 wonderful songs that are criminally underwatched simply because they keep churning out great new songs at a crazy rate and YouTube’s algorithm favors most recent videos or total views (their oldest MVs).

Edit: If someone could point you to the live version of BLOOMING from Feb14, 2020 (from their concert DVD/BluRay) with its little extra drum intro, that would hopefully be sweet for your own enjoyment.

Dude, the tutorial bits are extraordinarily helpful for a newb like me just trying to wrap my head around what I'm hearing as my fingers hurt from trying to learn basic chords.

Nice catch on the idea of introducing a motif and re-purposing. Check out their MV for Blooming for some sheer genius in terms of interwoven motifs. The guitar solo part of that song, all the way through to the end is fantastic songwriting and you should take notice of the motif ideas during that section.

You don't often hear a reference to Beethoven in Band-Maid video reviews! I'll take it! By the way, if you ever pay attention to their equipment, you might notice the little sideways nod to Scotland sitting atop Misa's amplifier head (her legendary flask of whiskey). Also, your demonstrations just make me admire Kanami's playing and writing even more.

Thanks for the analysis! Don't worry about talking a lot - it's very interesting hearing the songs and playing getting broken down and given context. I also enjoy hearing about the music theory components. One of the strengths of Band Maid I believe, is that they pull in influences from multiple genres and play around with their sound so that they don't get stale or too predictable. It's also great to see how some of the effects in the music are made. Thanks for demonstrating.
I've read that when Kanami writes the music for their songs, she works really hard to ensure that all the band members have their moments in the sun. Maybe not in every song, but overall they all get to be appreciated.
As far as Onset goes, it is also sometimes known as Saiki's (lead vocals) pee break.
Since you select future songs based on the number of appearances in the comments, let me suggests Play and Different as two interesting future choices for you.

Kanami, lead, taught Miku to play guitar from scratch so clearly her parts are exactly what Kanami would play herself and it works very well. They are not quite like other bands, they are all superb musicians but egos are absent so everyone gets a moment in the spotlight.

Thanks for this. Most Band Maid fans including myself really enjoy someone who has musical experience critique the band. So many musicians, music teachers and people who work in the business have reacted to BM and been blown away by their ability. Helps to reaffirm that which we fans already know. This is a GREAT BAND.
